Is this an Autistic trait?

I was talking to my dad earlier, and I noticed that whenever we talk about things he doesn't have any knowledge about, he gets rather upset.

I remember when I was a kid in junior school, and I used to cry when I couldn't do my sums.

I wish I had another example. 3 is a nice number.

I reckon this might be symptomatic. What are your opinions? Have you observed this in yourself or in other spectumites?

Do you think so?

My perception is that I was the only one who used to cry because I couldn't get a sum. Maybe it was because I was the only one who couldn't do math, and everyone else in my class could, and that's what upset me.

I get very anxious if there's information that I want to know that nobody will tell me.

^exactly. And I think, throughout my life, the fact that I was constantly having to cover my deficiencies made gaps of unknown info like this seem really important and stressful and...anxiety inducing...because info recall, especially of factual information is generally my strong suit.

A minor conflict between expectations and reality, inevitability and desire. It's only a problem to the extent that you believe you should have the answer.

So, is this just 'normal', or do autistic people have a more heightened anxiety response to this?

People with ASD tend to be a little more inflexible in their thinking, so it may be easier for us to get caught up in our expectations when they've been upset. If you hold your expectations dearer than is ‘normal’ then you'll suffer more than is normal. I don’t know whether anxiety is heightened in people with ASD or we’re just more vulnerable to it.
