I don't know if anyone here is aware of this, but ...

Aspen, a national asperger's support organization centered in New Jersey, where I live, has created a kind of cute jewelery ... little green bracelets that easily fit around one's wrist.

Such symbolic jewelery may have a point, in that we can identify one another in such a manner. The thing is that I seem to be the only one wearing it, but maybe that's because I am thinking about stopping. Many other people in my area may actually have a similar idea.

I was wearing it for a while and nothing happened. Just last week, however, someone at a cashier noticed it and stated: "Seems like you're autistic?" I didn't know how to respond to such a statement, but I responded. I replied, "Yeah. It seems I'm aspie." The cashier just looked at me and took my money. I felt embarrassed, and the incident sort of stuck with me. I am weary of wearing the bracelet now, so I basically stopped.

I think most people wear those bracelets just to be trendy, without even caring about what they mean. Especially if they say Livestrong or Support Our Troops. They're lame.

Yes, like you were in help...
I also feel negative, because of that feeling, of need for help

I cannot stand to wear a watch on my wrist let alone a rubber bracelet.

I could never understand the point of those things anyways.

As I've mentioned in an earlier thread, I find the idea of bracelets self-serving and rather creepy.

The problem with these things is that nobody can agree on what colours to use. This new group uses green, although the "Aspergian Passport" has been orange for a long time and the autism societies all use blue for autism.

I can see the point of wearing them, but think they are usually useless because you can't tell what the wearer is trying to say, particularly in cases where the writing on the bracelet is just an engraving and can't be seen unless you're within inches of it.

The rubber must hurt.

It would hurt me, especially in the summer when I sweat against anything rubber that touches my skin.
