I am very well acquainted with using alcohol to self medicate. What people told me then was true but I couldn't see it until
I stopped. It just sets up a vicious cycle of bad feelings>substance abuse>bad feelings + guilt and shame> substance
abuse. I had to stop drinking and get counseling to see it. I had to learn that I could survive my feelings.
