most of the support ive gotten is from wp. i have a habit of doing intensive research and self education when i get into a situaiton like this where i need information. educationally i dont need support, but i do often go looking for suggestions or experience tales from others for specific things. mostly what i need is the BTDT stories.
out in the real world, i am an introvert and my SO is autistic. we have literally no friends except my sister and her partner, so we cant get support from existing friends at all. our family is atheist so we dont attend a church where we can get support. i talk to my sister, but mainly as just a friendly ear as she has no kids and has never worked with kids, so she has no experience at all with most of the things my life revolves around. i am not close to the rest of my family and they dont live nearby, so i havent even told them.
locally i have been trying to find some support groups, but with very little success. there are informational monthly meetings ran during the school year by a couple local asd teachers, but they havent started yet this year, and judging by last years schedule, they cant really offer me anything that i dont already know. i did just find a small autism society group, but not sure how well we will fit in there. we do not subscribe to the chelation or woo-woo type of treatments, so that too is a barrier in finding someone to talk to.
early on during the diagnostic process (wow was it only this past spring? it feels like so long ago) i found a couple parent blogs that i find invaluable and read regularly. caitlin's is one, youve got the link for that. i also read:
