As I've grown increasingly lonely, using up all the resources available to one who has my particular interests I figured it was time to attempt connecting with the mother ship.

Part of my initial fear of coming here was what seemed to be overwhelming online derision towards Aspies, because they had bad experiences with those who were diagnosed as such. I work really hard not to be the LCD of our 'clique' though.

I'm Matthew, a gay, furry, convoluted guy who's very eager to make real friends; not just the faint acquaintances who don't even stay long enough to warm the air. Perhaps it will be easier to be accepted here among others who have similar social problems.

I don't hold my intelligence against others, I'm a really big fan of music (both listening and singing.. though my tastes are somewhat limited in ways I would be happy to explain) and I'd like to think I'm a nice person given how tolerant of many things I am.

For fear of having said too much already, I'll just leave this here, and hope that I didn't alienate anyone else..

Hi Matthew, welcome to WP!

^Please do explain. :)

First off, thank you to everyone who has said hello so far, it's really brightened my day, especially because of how I'm struggling with how to tackle this particular school assignment..

And, musically, it seems I tend to gravitate towards musicians I can relate to, whether it be their downtrodden delivery and lyrical content, or a dreamy and ungrounded musicality. Most times a combination of both. There are rare occasions where I listen to 'completely upbeat' music, largely the types that are completely nonsensical. I don't like songs such as 'Bad Day' which attempt to put a down to earth perspective on a troubling situation, because I feel it's naive and illogical. But if the point of the song is 'life sucks, but just pretend it doesn't a little bit,' that appeals to me because it feels like that's what I have to do if I want to get anything done.

Examples of bands I like: My Bloody Valentine, Mew, Modest Mouse, Bjork, Outkast, Kate Bush, Joy Electric, Talk Talk, Justin Timberlake, M83, M.I.A.

I have never heard any of those, but I surely do hear "the beat of the different, different drum."

Welcome to WP. 808!

Hi Matthew

I too like Bjork, Outkast and My Bloody Valentine. I also like Amy Whinehouse though but, more for her voice with its raspy throaty quality than the lyrics.

You may want to look into some of the "Kiwi" musicians.. though at times a bit folksy and overly instrumental for my tastes, it may give you a broader base.

I'm sorry but I know me and I'm just acquaintance material.. people and their idiosyncrasies tend to only keep my attention/interest for a limited time and I tend to forget people have feelings that can and do get hurt. Dont take offense to anything I say as its not meant hurtful or judgemental.
