I've just recently found out that I had AS. But there is something that I find very strange about me. I have a very hard time actually sticking to a routine. Such as wake up at a certain time, and shower etc. I just go about things without a schedule. And I hear at least from my mother that thats not good, and I have to be more disciplined, and more routine based. My question to those out there is how do I actually go about doing that? Any advice?

That you are on the spectrum does not mean that you have to stick to a schedule. Some people just organize their lives a bit more loosely than others. So I would not worry too much about not having this particular Aspie trait. As long as you get things done when they are due, I think that is fine.

If that is not the case, however, and you really want to structure your day a bit more an easy first step is going to bed at roughly the same time each night. After a while you will quite find that rising at the same time every day is becoming easier.
Another step is to work out a sensible order in which to do the things that are on your list every day. My head is somewhat fuzzy in the mornings and I need about half an hour to kick into gear, so until that happens I just run my morning routine which is the same every day. You know... stumble out of bed, grab the right amount of clothing items, move to the bathroom, brush my teeth, wash my face, shower, and so on... Nothing spectacular, but it is a routine that helps me to be presentable by the time I have to leave to catch my train.

some people cant handle schedules. I think thats you. I get the job done but I do it when I want. All you need is self discipline. If you can teach yourself then you don't really need to be so organized.

Just curious...do schedules kinda stress you out? If I try to schedule things too much I tend to start getting really anxious as the next scheduled event approaches; I feel like I just don't have time to get anything else done and then I end up doing nothing, even if the event in question is not for several hours. I find myself dreading things that I like, and that *I* scheduled, because I see them as interrupting whatever else I'm doing before them. Weird, eh?

I also have a hard time sticking to a schedule. I just don't work that way.

It is a tightrope. For me schedules are a stressor, leading to panic or paralysis. But deviations from routine produce the same reactions.

I tend to have a time block - not a time - for the most important things of each day. What does not get finished in its slot today will wait for tomorrow - or else go away.

Hint - avoid time-specific jobs.
