Distinguishing Science and Pseudoscience
Very good article by Rory Coker, professor of physics at the University of Texas.
Because the media bombard us with nonsense, it is useful to consider the earmarks of pseudoscience. The presence of even one of these should arouse great suspicion. On the other hand, material displaying none of these flaws might still be pseudoscience, because its adherents invent new ways to fool themselves every day. Most of the examples in this article are related to my field of physics, but similar beliefs and behavior are associated with iridology, medical astrology, meridian therapy, reflexology, subluxation-based chiropractic, therapeutic touch, and other health-related pseudosciences.

Except the difference between science and pseudoscience isn't easy, one only has to look at discredited scientific theories in the history of science to see how hard it is to decide what 'science' is.
The idea that it's easy to know what is and what isn't is ok when dealing with 'low hanging fruit' but gets much much more difficult quickly afterwards, and even then what may seem like low hanging fruit pseudoscience might not be.
The truth is often hard simply put.

Some confusion on this point is caused by what we might call "crossover." "Science" is not an honorary badge you wear, it's an activity you do. Whenever you cease that activity, you cease being a scientist. A distressing amount of pseudoscience is generated by scientists who are well trained in one field but plunge into another field of which they are ignorant. A physicist who claims to have found a new principle of biology—or a biologist who claims to have found a new principle of physics—is almost invariably doing pseudoscience. And so are those who forge data, or suppresses data that clash with their preconceptions, or refuse to let others see their data for independent evaluation. Science is like a high peak of intellectual integrity, fairness, and rationality. The peak is slippery and smooth. It requires a tremendous effort to remain near it. Slacking of effort carries one away and into pseudoscience. Some pseudoscience is generated by individuals with a small amount of specialized scientific or technical training who are not professional scientists and do not comprehend the nature of the scientific enterprise—yet think of themselves as "scientists."
One might wonder if there are not examples of "crossovers" in the other direction; that is people who have been thought by scientists to be doing pseudoscience, who eventually were accepted as doing valid science, and whose ideas were ultimately accepted by scientists. From what we have just outlined, one would expect this to happen extremely rarely, if ever. In fact, neither I nor any informed colleague I have ever asked about this, knows of any single case in which this has happened during the hundreds of years the full scientific method has been known to and used by scientists. There are many cases in which a scientist has been thought wrong by colleagues but later—when new information comes in—is shown to be correct. Like anyone else, scientists can get hunches that something is possible without having enough evidence to convince their associates that they are correct. Such people do not become pseudoscientists, unless they continue to maintain that their ideas are correct when contradictory evidence piles up. Being wrong or mistaken is unavoidable; we are all human, and we all commit errors and blunders. True scientists, however, are alert to the possibility of blunder and are quick to correct mistakes. Pseudoscientists do not. In fact, a short definition of pseudoscience is "a method for excusing, defending, and preserving errors."
Theres quite a few rules before you can call anything scientific and alot of science and scientific proof have to match those rules before you can call it science. I agree with that.
However, the rules of science have changed over the centuries and i do not have the courage to say that anno 2010 we've developed the one and only True scientific method for the rest of eternity. I often wonder what science will look like in say, 300 years. Both the applicable part of science and our scientific proof/knowledge.
I also find some scientific proof absolutely laughable. Technically it is scientific proof, but practically its a load of BS. Like last year there was this headline that biological fruit is just as healthy as non-biological fruit. They defined healthy as "equal amount of vitamins" - period. Scientifically, the research was sound. But the simple people conclusion wasn't really, imo. Theres so much more to health than vitamins. Pseudoscience? No. But making the translation from really strictly defined research into the world of loosly formed concepts, theres still alot to work on. But thats an interesting aspect aswell. As science evolves, the less the world exists of loosly formed concepts. However, i wonder how much extra (unresearched) info we miss or stop seeing when we do so. If everyone considered "amount of vitamins" on a scale of whatever as the sole definition of "healthy and unhealthy", then what would we call the amount of toxins on a scale of whatever?
And i see that pseudoscience hovers in these undefined areas of loosly formed concepts. Its just trying to find an explanation that we don't yet have scientifically. We might never have, but then why does it persist?
"Non-biological fruit"? What would that be, like, wax fruit or something?
The only reason we can't get by on the famed sci-fi "food pills" is because the human digestive system requires bulk to work with, not just the nutrients. It's quite possible to get all the nutrients you need from vitamins, milk, and various supplements - but you won't be healthy, because without bulk to drive it all through your system, you won't absorb the nutrients properly.
My favorite quote on science, though, comes from a fanfic, Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, based on the question of how the Harry Potter series would have been different if young Harry's aunt had married a noted scholar and professor, rather than the proletariat lump she married in the books, and Harry had been raised in an environment that actually encouraged his intellect. This is from an exchange in which Harry is seducing Draco Malfoy to the study of science:
Draco nodded at this as though, finally, he'd heard something he could understand. "And that cost?"
"Learning to admit you're wrong."

Sodium is a metal that reacts explosively when exposed to water. Chlorine is a gas that'll kill you dead in moments. Together they make my fries taste good.
And perfectly testable scientific hypothesis can be shown (by empirical means) to be just plain wrong. For example the theory of Caloric which assumed heat was a fluid was show to be in error. Also the phlogiston hypothesis which is scientific because there was -some- evidence for it was show to be in error by Lavoussier and Priestly who discovered oxygen. When something burns, it does not lose anything. Rather, it combines with oxygen and it gains molecular weight.

As the movement is anti-atheism, and they proclaim science to be atheistic, therefore they must be anti-science.

The Wikipedia article seems accurate enough. Their being anti-science despite efforts to appear "scientific" is pseudoscience.

Science has been established since before 1810? When rarely wrong they quickly correct mistakes?

Only people who studied these books, passed tests, got degrees, are real people, and scientists?
Physics has become a religion. They are in it for the money, and have produced nothing in the last fifty years.
Science changes when our world view changes. The Universe is mostly magical, things we do not understand, which is harder to admit than just being wrong.
The worst thing they do is have answers based of weak evidence, from a hundred years ago.

Science is based on careful measurement and confirmed experiment. It is experimental confirmation that keeps the physical sciences connected to reality. Physical science has made the modern world possible and available to the many.

There is not and never will be any "One True Scientific Method". The methodology is adapted to the kind of phenomena and objects being studied and measured. There are some "rules" that apply in all the sciences or the physical sciences, anyway. Theories and hypothesis must be empirically testable. And no empirical result is accepted unless it has been independently confirmed. This is to prevent observer bias.
In order to be scientific a theory or hypothesis must lead to definite, measurable, testable conclusions or predictions. It is possible for a hypothesis to be scientific (and supportable by some evidence) yet be wrong (refutable by some duplicated experiment). For example the theory of caloric, or the theory of phlogiston. Even Newtonian gravitational theory is wrong. It does not correctly account for the anomalous precession of the orbits of planets about the sun, Mercury in particular.
The classical theory of electromagnetic waves and fields although very useful and in many contexts accurate does not account for the photo-electric effect, Compton radiation or the production of X-rays. For that quantum theory is needed.

Yes really, many former pseudo-scientific things were found to be scientific. The problem is with the concept "pseudo science" it is too broad and too vague a concept to make an argument with because no one is capable of defining in an absolute manner what is and what is not pseudo science because history is littered with dead theories that were once respectable but would today be considered pseudo-scientific.
