Nope. It's definitely a popular interest in the aspie community but that's just because of its diversity. I only like the dark/post-apocalyptic stuff and it has to be dystopic and contain social commentary. My obsession is with the theme of the anime and not the anime itself. Claymation is much cooler in my opinion.

No. I've never liked sci-fi, and I liked anime so much better when it wasn't so popular.

Damn all these kids who ruined DBZ and Naruto for me.

I've only really ever tolerated sci-fi and have never been drawn to it directly and don't care for much anime at all... and have only tolerated it a little, more so when I was a teenager because my friends were into it.

On a sort of related note, I'm also not a gamer of any kind. I can't deal with the controllers and it frustrates me immensely. And as for role playing games, there was never a goal or end to the game so I didn't ever see the point. When I was a teenager, all my friends were into computer and role playing games and I used to remember, and recite back to them when applicable, the cheat codes and keep track of where they'd been in the game before already and what was waiting for them at every turn... and for the RPGs I'd painstakingly paint those tiny little figurines with crazy amount of detail for them to use. I also created an entire RPG game world for them to use, but was never interested in actually playing. I think this bit of info dates me though... that was back in the 80s. :)

I love sci fi. I grew up on sci fi literature, films and TV. But I'm not the type who would go to Comic Con. I don't think like sci fi is necessarily an Aspie thing, but the way I like it is in a very Aspie way. I care more about the genre itself than a particular show or film. Most people I've noticed are just fans of certain shows, but have no genuine interest in the genre, its history and evolution. I have no interest in talking to those people. They strike me as very dull and boring.

I never have liked anime, but I'm much older than the people who usually are into anime. I think that's more a generational thing than an Aspie thing. I work with kids, and a lot of NT kids like anime too.

Overall, I think there's a lot of people here who are confusing being a fan with having an interest that is related to having Asperger's. Asperger's wires one's brain a certain way--it makes our brains more information-gathering, and that's why we get obsessed with certain things. We seek to gather all the information we can about that subject. That's not the same as being a fan. I've known many people who are Pink Floyd fans, for example. They like to wear the t-shirts, and have Pink Floyd stickers on everything they own. They want people to identify them with that band and they seek out other people who enjoy that music too. It's a social thing for them. But when I was a kid and I was obsessed with Pink Floyd, I wasn't like that. I wanted to know all the data about Pink Floyd. It was an intellectual thing. I could name all the albums in order, then all the songs in playing order, the years they were all recorded, where they were recorded, information about musical equipment, producers, touring, etc. I was more of a Pink Floyd encyclopedia than a Pink Floyd fan. And I can't say at that time I enjoyed their music as much as a regular Pink Floyd fan did. I was obsessed simply because I like a few of their songs, but I wasn't that big of a fan. In fact there was far more Pink Flotd songs I didn't like than ones I did. Some of the albums I flat out hated, but I still had to know all the nformation I could find out about them.

So there is a difference. But suffice to say, I don't think being a fan of sci fi or anime means anything but that you're a fan of sci fi or anime. So fi it seems there's alot of sci fi or anime fans here, it really doesn't mean anything regarding Asperger's. In regards to actual Aspie obsessions, it could be anything--whatever happens to entice your brain.

I don't read as much sci-fi literature or watch as many films as I used to, but I do greatly enjoy the genre.

As for amine, I've never really given it a try.

Ehh...I like a few sci-fi movies such as Metropolis and Blade Runner, and i'm quite interested in all things time travel when sci-fi is concerned. My main obsession in life is animation, I am absolutely fascinated in the mechanics of it, and of course includes anime. But I don't obsess over anime, I don't particularly find anime that interesting. Beautifully colored and painstakingly drawn most of the time yes, but often I find the animation too stiff. Miyazaki, who directed Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, among other great films, is one of the few exceptions to where I say that anime is amazing. But what really turns me off about it is the fan base...*shutters*. Especially if it's a popular anime on Adult Swim, the fans are just...I'm not even going to go there! And I believe animation was never intended for children, and it still isn't.

Yeah sci-fi is so lame...

No, sorry, can't do it. I love Doctor Who, Stargate, books by Issac Asimov, Ian M Banks, etc. I even write some sci-fi myself. I'm quite new to it though.

A lot of people hate Star Trek but how many people have actually watched it? I don't mind it. I'm not into the whole human crew thing.
I would definitely go to comicon to meet Michael Shanks though. He's from Stargate.

I grew up with anime: Neon Genesis Evangelion, FL/CL, Cowboy Beop, Eureka Seven, Ghost in the Shell, Bleach.
I don't watch much of it anymore but I like Avatar: The Last Air Bender. And I used to play a computer game called Oni.
I used to draw my own anime quite well when I was younger. Made up my own character: 83. Actually made up my own story to go with him.

Actually the original Stargate movie had a dramatic effect on me when I watched it back in 95 or 96. Around that time. The Never Ending Story did too but that's more fantasy.
Gattaca was also a really good movie.

I used to stay up late at night watching Dragon Ball. Naruto was also fun to quote.
What about the anime that started it all? Astro Boy.
Don't quote me on that. I don't really know what the first anime was.
