Look through this webpage and post back if you think you've found the error. I picked up on it right away.

I'm suprised no one has picked up on this...

I'll give a hint, the error is in the caption for the first picture.

How on earth would anyone not already familiar with the subject be able to tell? My guess is it's either not a satellite photo (maybe it's just aerial) or maybe the date is wrong.

Is the photo id (STE028-090-013) wrong?

Does it have to do with the date?

DING! DING! DING! DING! DING!

You win todays grand prize.

Quote:
Space Shuttle photo STE028-090-013 of the volcanoes of Katmai National Park. Photo taken in August 1987.

That picture couldn't have been taken in 1987 becasue the all space shuttle missions from February 1986 to August 1988, were canceled because of the challenger explosion.

Job well done Melvis!

Well the picture could have been taken in that year, it just wasn't taken from a space shuttle. Could it have been taken from a satellite, perhaps?

My thought is that who ever typed in the date meant to say 1997, and not 1987.

The picture looks like a shuttle photo, but might be a satellite photo.

I searched the JSC digital image archive and could find no refrence to it. either thru a text reference, or ID search.

Unless our government was flying space shuttle missions in secret...

Anyway, shuttle mission begins with STS not STE.
