I have a bizarre interest in chess, bizarre because I hate playing it. I have several books and like reading about the famous players and championships, but actually playing it brings me no pleasure at all. It's not just that I'm terrible at it; even when I manage to make a good move, I'm not enjoying myself. I can tell you all about the life of Bobby Fischer and plenty of other champions and the matches they played, but I'd rather lick a raccoon than actually play a game with anyone.

I'll certainly never again play traditional chess, since it favors preparation over skill. The best player is the one who memorizes ridiculous amounts of data, particularly openings. You have to devote your life to the game to be any good at it. If I ever play again, it'll only be Chess 960, aka Shuffle Chess, aka Fischer Random Chess. This is where you randomly shuffle the pieces on the back row, so that opening theory is useless and only the player's skill determines his performance.

I used to play a lot of online poker. I worked for an online sportsbook/ casino/ poker operator and my life revolved around gambling. I would not recommend gambling to anyone. A lot of people where I worked had serious debt problems.

My grandfather taught me to play chess, but I did not have the discipline to learn to play well. Random chess sounds more fun.

I was ok at chess but I always found it boring. As far as poker, I am very good at poker because I don't rely on tells at all(unless someone is being thunderingly obvious about their hand.) I have always viewed poker as a mathematical game. I can usually determine what the best move is mathematically and because I'm right more often than I'm wrong, I'm a profitable player over the long term.

I used to be a very good Chess player, but haven't played it for some time, now...
I am okay at 21 (Poker), but don't play it much, either.

i'm pretty proficient with texas hold'em (poker) becouse the ffact that my face doesn't show my real emotions, i got a powerful poker face; getting skilled in showing the emotion you think you are supposed to can be used too to throw your 'opponent' in the wrong direction.

as for chess; i'm decent, but only becouse i play at random, confusing better players, and becouse i can keep an overvieuw of the entire board at once.
