george w. bush
he was a good president in my opinion.
he is much maligned, plagued by false accusations of being unintelligent and accused of lying to wage war without sufficient proof.
he had numerous accomplishments (this is not an exhaustive list):
1) he started up a $15 billion global aids initiative program that saved hundreds of thousands of lives
2) in 2003, he asked congress to pass a bill to allow the us government to strongly regulate and oversee housing and sub-prime lending. congress did not pass and now people say its bush's fault for not regulating.
3) he implemented no child left behind program to increase school funding and measure accountability
4) he got through congress and implemented a prescription drug program for elders (medicare part d), putting a greater emphasis on preventative care.
5) warned the country that social security is going to be bankrupt in a few decades and called for reform. congress refused to act.
6) protected the country from a second terrorist attack by creating the department of homeland security. controversial measures such as wiretapping and patriot act protected this country from danger.
7) pressured libya, a dictatorship with a history of sponsoring terror to terminate its wmd program
8 ) conducted two wars which will result in freedom for 50 million people (millions of women in the middle east are now able to vote and go to school) and their posterity, ousting two brutal regimes and supplanting them with democracies.
9) his controversial bailout plan saved the entire economy from melting down (and yes, the corporations are paying it off).
many have accused bush of being the worst president (they fail to look at contemporary politics objectively). history will vindicate bush.
He most notoriously rigged, deceived and manipulated information that involved the USA in two useless frightfully destructive wars that has cause the whole economic system to dose dive for the billions of dollars thrown to the wind supporting crooks and thugs in Iraq and Afghanistan that is doing nobody any good and lots of people terrible harm. This is aside from his destructive attacks on Constitutional civil rights in the country that, in all probability, the country may never recover from. To say he is the worst president is probably the understatement of the century.

Both of those claims appear to be true, based on what evidence is available.
1) he started up a $15 billion global aids initiative program that saved hundreds of thousands of lives
Granted, that was a good thing.
That law actually put a severe financial strain on already-struggling school districts because the funding from it did not suffice to cover its requirements. It helped to bring Ohio's public school system to the brink of collapse. Even my Bush-worshipping US Government teacher spat upon NCLB.
If a Democrat had done that, you would have been screaming about socialism and the massive hole that was blown in the deficit as a result of that program.
Had the government not been illegally raiding Social Security to cover other expenses they didn't want to fund, Social Security would have been fully funded until the mid 2020s, and would have continued to pay out slightly reduced benefits indefinitely after that.
BS. Those measures were unconstitutional, the DHS is useless, the TSA does nothing to keep us safe, and Bush dismantled Clinton's effective anti-terrorism program as soon as he got into office.
He got upwards of a million Iraqis killed. Hundreds of thousands of civilians are dead, the infrastructure is destroyed, and the entire educated class has fled. And Afghanistan is still a mess. We have not brought freedom there. The Karzai government is hugely corrupt and unpopular, and in many reasons the Taliban or similar groups are still effectively in charge.
Brutal and evil as Saddamm was, he was better than a power vacuum and foreign occupation.
So Bush's bailouts are fine but Obama's are not?
No it won't. He may not be judged the worst president in history, but he will certainly be remembered as one of the worst in the past century.

For real?
Bush may have done a few good things here and there, but overall he did more damage to this country than good. Our economy, freedoms and worldwide reputation have been incredibly damaged under his eight years and who knows how long it'll take to recover from it.

Just like Lyndon Johnson did with regard to Viet Nam. Apparently people of both parties indulge in this kind of dishonest. In any case Lyndon Johnson ended up killing ten times as many Americans as Dubya.

The NCLB policy seems to be universally hated. I've heard educators, scientists, politicians and philosophers bash it.
Bush sucked, as Orwell said he was responsible for a war that killed over one million people. the War in Iraq was ridiculous, how many dictators have been not only left alone by the USA, but installed?

United Stateseans need not weep over the death of Iraqis.

I have a good deal of social values in common with W. I will not however get passed the fact that he clearly lied about his reasons for taking us to war. I would have supported the Iraq war, if it had been waged for different reasons. Less the ten years after attempting to impeach a president for lying over a personal matter we went to war and were lied to. Those same republicans that were so zealous in relation to the truth previously were stunningly silent on the clearly more serious offense.

Lyndon Johnson did the same. He and his buddies cooked up the Gulf of Tonkien affair as a pretext for going into Viet Nam full bore.

Let's not forget the wholly unconstitutional faith based initiatives that Bush created under executive order and all the related religious failures that he tried to implement in government regarding sex education.
Then there's the whole Terry Schaivo thing.
Then there's the protection of marriage amendment that he wasted legislative floor time on.
Then there's his removing the US from the one nuclear disarmament program that was actually working to cut down numbers in Russia and prevent those materials from reaching the black market.

Also, let's not forget this guy used 9/11 as his reasoning to the American public to go after Iraq but had plans to attack Iraq before 9/11 even happened.
On top of that, let's think about that he was planning to attack Iraq as early as January 2001 but he never formulated an exit strategy before going to war nor did he demand one from the generals before engaging.
Bush was one of the worst presidents in a string of pretty horrific presidencies in recent history and maybe not the worst, but seemingly the most irresponsible.
But that's what you get when you elect a spoiled brat who never had to work for anything in his life as president.
