Do you walk into traffic?

As usual, there's no way to choose more than one. So choose the one that happens most of the time, or is most important to you for some other reason. I'm having to make such a choice myself, as most of them apply to me at one point or another. The questions apply to what's happening at the exact time that you're doing this. So you may be able to conceptualize danger now, but you might not at the time.

I made this poll because I hear from parents all the time "You don't understand my child might walk into traffic!" When I walk into traffic all the time, and have been yanked out of the way of cars before many times. A friend whose brain closely mirrors mine has a boyfriend who calls parking lots "Anne death traps" and actively works to keep her safe in them and in roads. She has been hit by a car before. Lots of autistic adults I know (including many who are regarded as AS or "very high functioning") have serious trouble with this. So AFAIK it's not just a child thing, it's also not just a person who has no standard means of communication thing. But I'm curious as to the numbers, so I'm asking.

I have accidentally nearly walked into an on-coming car numerous times when lost in thought . There is also a really, really badly positioned road in a town near me, that curves right round the corner of a building, and there is absolutely no way of telling if a car is coming round it. Ridiculous .

But I generally do have difficulties of telling when to cross roads. I get so confused .

One time I was standing on trolley tracks without even realizing it. I don't know if that counts as walking into traffic. I didn't realize I was in the way until after the trolley was stopped and waiting. Someone told me to move. It just made me feel like I was not hip to what was happening around me, somewhat.
On an everyday basis, I do not walk into traffic.

My danger sense was broken for most of my life but it never came out in a traffic related sense.

Walking soothes me and I forget that there are cars around.

I've never walked into a busy road but I've had a car nearly hit me in a parking lot and I've walked in front of a single car on an otherwise abandoned road.

I hate how the sun reflects on all the vehicles so I have to have my head down in parking lots.

I dodge traffic Frogger-style. It's a timing thing. I like jaywalking because I have to work out the timing of both lanes of traffic and it tickles my brain just a little bit.

I don't, thank God. Oh, but I did once, because I just went across without looking. Luckily, it was broad day light. I heard this sudden and short choir of car honks, and thought "oh @#$ =.=' "

If I did so, I would do what it took to not do that. It brings tragic consequences to the person who hits you without eye whittnesses and proof of their it being an accident. Some averege people seem to do this as well. I was driveing down a three to four lane street, on three seperate occasions with my lights on. One lady, a black guy, and some hispanic were nearly hit by me. The hispanic (number three) gave me the finger to! Yeah, like it was my fault. Hrmf.

Let me let a little more off your back to. Two supposedly normal people, crossed a road we call Highway 6, got hit, and died. It's four lanes across, then another four lanes. Plus, we drive 55-65 MPH on it. They didn't go to the cross walks, or use the park underpass. So you know, you all are really much smarter to admit your 'oops' factor and try to solve the issue.

Well, the second one was the black guy I mentioned. I could see his face, because the street lights were on enough. Now that you mention clothing, #2 was wearing all black, and it was at night.

I will occasionally space out and do something like this, but not very often. So I said no.

I do this sometimes but not often. I did it the other week and it was so embarrassing. I thought the light turned red and I had the walk sign so I walked and then a car honked at me and I noticed I had walked out in traffic and the light was actually green. what the heck happened? This was at a crosswalk. Did I just imagine the light turning red and that I had the walk sign? It was like I wasn't there until I heard a honk and I was back into the world again. Then I thought I heard "a**hole."

I don't walk into traffic. I prefer to cross at the cross walks. I have a friend who's possibly on the spectrum who walks into traffic. I have to show her where the cross walk is. I'm afraid that one day she's going to get hurt very badly.

I tend not to use crosswalks if they'll add distance to my walking, but I'm usually pretty safe about that.

What goes wrong is when I zone out while walking and do the same thing I typically do but without conscious awareness. I recall snapping out of it once with a large pickup bearing down on me and good thing that I did - but most of the time I seem pretty safe, so I don't think this is a typical problem for me.

I don't but my mom (who I strongly suspect is an Aspie) is a danger in parking lots. She is just so far into her own world that she is almost oblivious to moving vehicles.

I've been hit by a car before and been yanked out of the street before. I don't know if I just don't pay attention or what. I try to pay attention to the crossing light but I always manage to walk into traffic.

I used to do this as a kid, I stopped doing it when I became really anal about cross-walks.
