People always give me remarks like "cheer up" or "smile" when I'm in a perfectly good mood. I've gotten used to it, but the other day, I caught myself in a blank stare with my mouth wide open --and had been that way for quite some time! Is this how I really look all the time!?! I looked in the mirror at the face I was doing and I looked so stupid. No wonder all of the comments! I asked my friend if my mouth is always open (like a drooling monkey) she said yeah, most of the time! (No wonder my lips are always chapped!!)

I have to breathe through my mouth. I have severe allergies and my sinuses are always congested. I have had allergy shots but they did not help. I do not want to constantly take medication for this; I already have to take enough medication. So, I end up breathing through my mouth. I no longer care if it makes me seem a bit odd.

My only problem is that some people use "mouth breather" as an insult. I have never understood why. It seems like such an odd thing to be concerned about.

This is actually very normal. Just don't worry about it. :)

My partner and I are both big time mouth breathers. I sometimes feel self conscious about this; occasionally I'll be on the subway reading a book or something and I'll realize I'm gaping like a fish. I have to laugh at myself...I look at my honey when we're playing video games or something and he does the same thing. I think it's cute :)

I imagine the comments are still annoying. After all, you can't really help it. I for one have my mouth open often enough. I sometimes have to keep it open at night. Snott I didn't know I had in my throat likes to block my air way. It doesn't matter if I have a cold or not.

Then these large cockroaches show up now and then, and that can be annoying and make me choke to. I learned quickly how to hate those things.

I don't think breathing through your mouth is anything out of the ordinary. Lots of people do it. I breath through my nose though, but I don't really see it as a bad thing. It's just the way you are.

:P It's not particularly breathing out of my mouth, it's just me having my mouth open-with a dumb expression/stare on my face. That tells people "I hate life"

I catch myself doing it all the time at home. I learned to be self-conscious about it in public, because when I was little my mom was always pushing my chin up and telling me to breathe through my nose. XD

what is even worse than being perpetually mouth-agape, is to be seen drooling absent-mindedly.

Somewhere during teenage years, i got into the habit of sucking on my tongue, the vaccuum it creates keeps my mouth shut. Try it :P

Yep. No wonder people are telling me to cheer up and that everything's going to be okay. 8O
