How do you feel, and why?

I hate it. The one asking the question doesn't usually care "how I am doing". Its always seemed like an odd way to initiate small talk to me, but I am not NT. I sometimes respond to the question with, "terrible". You should see their face.

I always want to respond honestly and, of course, no one wants that. And if I ask someone honestly wanting to know, they always say 'fine' or something along those lines no matter how blatantly obvious it is that that's a lie.

Hate it and even I don't want to respond honestly because I am never in a mood talking about what I am feeling or what my day has been like. If I want to do that, I go to my online friends about it or husband or my parents.

I always respond "good".

I only do it to avoid further small talk

Hate it. If you want to greet someone, then say, hello, hi, greetings, good morning, etc. Don't ask question if you don't really want an answer.

It is a loathable question, along with 'are you all right?'

I usually answer 'I'm all right', and they usually respond 'that's good', which causes me to ALMOST fly into a rage and bellow 'NO! I am NOT GOOD, I am ALL RIGHT! I am not POSITIVE, I am not NEGATIVE, I am just NEUTRAL!' before storming off muttering to myself.

I really don't care if someone asks me the question. I just respond in NT language, Fine. Why do people find it entertaining to ask someone a question they know the answer to?

I hate it, what's the point of asking a question to which you clearly don't want a truthful answer? I normally just say "fine", because I know they don't care and that's the answer they're looking for. except, if my family asks, I'll answer truthfully because I know they care.

Though, sometimes for fun, I like to answer with random answers that don't even match the question. It's interesting to see if people notice, so far, no one has, they just keep going like you answered "fine".

Yes, very much this. I like the question, but I don't like how it's used.

I apparently don't even know what this question means.

Which is, I guess, the problem.

Hate it.

If you don't want the answer then don't ask the question, and having been asked the question I have to shovel my way through all the potential answers just to throw "Ok" back as a response, and that's always mildly annoying.

Say "Hello" if that's what you mean. It's a perfectly good word and designed for use as a greeting.

Thank you, MooCow! I love this idea and can't wait to try it out!
