I was considering going to a speed dating event next month, however as i have rather low confidence and i'm autistic(aspergers) would you feel this is a good idea?, has anyone else been to one?

i can handle 3 minutes of conversation with a person easier than a longer one.

I would never do that as it runs counter to my strengths.

That said, it could be very helpful as a training exercise because intensive practice is what AS types need. There are some ways that I was pretty fearless when aquiring my meager skills but I don't think I could do speed dating. If you can pull it off my hats off to you. It might be a good idea.

I couldn't really go to a speed dating thing as I doubt I'd find one for people like me, but you have nothing to lose so I don't see why you shouldn't give it a go. Just don't expect too much. Go along, have fun (if you can lol) and maybe you'll meet someone even just as a friend.

When I first read thing I thought it'd be a bad idea for someone with AS. Well maybe not a bad idea, but unlikely to work. But then again, maybe it would actually help in a way, as you don't have to initiate the conversation. I can talk to people ok (or at least better than I used to!) but I can't for the life of me bring myself to approach a girl I don't already know. I think a setting like this, where you all know what you're there for and you're almost introduced to them artificially, could actually work out quite well

Good luck anyway

Do you think amphetamines are provided?

That would be an "experiance" in dating to say the least.

I have three minutes? That's plenty of time for me to aspie mono-logue talk at you to death. I only need to choose one topic from a range of obsessions I have.

I should try one of those things, and maybe take my tape recorder with me. Then again, I'm not sure where these speed dating events are, and I'm also not quite sure I would want to go on a date with someone I met for 3 minutes. If there was a way to convince someone to just hang out instead of go on a date and not piss her off in the process, maybe I would do it.

In any case, I need to get my head screwed on straight before anything like that were to happen...unless I'm just doing it for the lulz.

I've done it before, it's a piece of p*ss, the trick is to not take it seriously and treat it as a bit of fun which is what everyone else will be doing at these events. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, and if anything fruitful does come out of it, then think of it as a bonus.

Some people on here really need to grow a backbone and stop using AS as a constant cop-out excuse to not try help themselves out of the situations they are not happy with.

*edit* I realise this sounds like I am having at go, it isn't meant like that, but I don't understand why so many on here keep asking for advice only to then have reasons lined up in advance for not taking the advice given to them, seriously what's the point?

I have been tempted by speed dating myself, though meeting many people and thinking what to say can be challenging.
