Bee Fear
My ten year old Aspie, Josh, is afraid of bees. Not much of a problem in winter
but it's spring now and the big fat honeybees are everywhere. He commented on
them a week or so ago but the weather has been 40 one day and 70 the next so its
hit and miss as to whether we see any. I noticed that he is running to the car
like ninja bees are lying in wait for him. He understands that they are not
after him but he worries about angering them, stepping on them, brushing past
them, etc. He knows that it is not something that should happen but he is
terrified that it will. The comment he made was "what if I am allergic." The
other day he was in the car and a bee went behind the side view mirror and this
made him worry that it was trying to find a way to get him in the car. He left
the car, keys in the ignition, doors unlocked and ran to find me. Has anyone
else dealt with this situation or one similar and has any ideas. I'm an awesome
mom and will do what I must to keep him from being agoraphobic in spring and
summer. I've thought about education but that seems to only exacerbate the
fear. Help me!

I was afraid of bees, until I got stung by one. I was outside eating lunch, and I heard something buzzing around my head. I got annoyed and tried to swat it, and then I felt a sharp pain in the back of my neck. It flew away and I was in mild pain for about two hours but that was it. It wasn't anything too serious. Just tell him that it's not even as bad as falling off a bike (which I have done all too often), and there's nothing to worry about, unless he actually is allergic.
