it seems where we lack socially we more than make up in some other way or have our "special talent." my talent was math; from elem. school all the way through college i was always the math teachers pet and completely outperformed every other student every single year. i remember the year i took geometry the teacher came to me and said "dude when are you ever gonna miss a question on one of my tests," these type of things make it worth having aspergers to me.

to be fair i was the complete opposite in english. the teachers normally disliked me and i performed dreadfully. 8)

just wondering what talents you other may aspergians have?

My current avatar shows my grandfather and one of my cousins and me ... and we were all "tinkers" (mechanics/fabricators), as such. We could build or fix just about anything, and we were usually quite frugal. My final project was for handling concrete septic tanks within a manufacturing facility, and it was the fabrication of everything here between the hoist hook and the floor ...

I'm pretty good at writing and languages. It only took a couple days for me to learn how to pronounce things in Polish. (not to say that I know the language, just how to pronounce words written in Polish)

I have a knack for remembering CLLI codes, I can read technical manuals from cover to cover and answer questions about them years later, I'm good at squeezing the last iotas of capability out of outdated telecommunications equipment and I'm very good at troubleshooting technical problems logically.

i can flap my ears, individually or in pair
i can retract my uvula on command
i can flare my nostrils
i have a limited facility for esophogeal speech
i have a limited facility for dental or uvular trills ["rhotacisms"]
i can whistle exhaling or inhaling, using both vibrato and tremolo, individually or in combination
i used to have perfect pitch when i was younger, having the ability to tune instruments spot-on sans pitch pipe or other reference, and to identify a note or notes on the piano or other instrument sight unseen. i learned how to do this while playing the piano, or trying to play the piano. i still can discern 1/8th tone increments but it is getting wobbly in my old age.

i have developed some proficiency at digital audio restoration of corrupted audio. it is an art more than anything. audio restoration tasks help keep my pitch acuity up.

I am very gifted in Academics and the Arts (Music, only). I am nothing near a prodigy, but I have won the 'Best in Class' awards for the last several consecutive years.

I consider myself to be good at word compositions, such as Essays, reviews and articles - perhaps Journalism or a Poet/Author?
I also throughly enjoy Science and History, and even Mathematics - perhaps a Historian or Cosmologist?
Or even a Violinist?

Absolute pitch perception is about the only 'special' talent that springs to mind.

I'm no savant (I was exceptionally bright as a kid, having a 15 year olds reading level at 6, but public education crushed that out of me)
I'm good at biology, better than most, but I read endless books to acquire that knowledge. I'd like to think I'll end up smart sometime, after a few decades of study...

I have a photographic memory when I want to. I've been known to scare my family and friends with the random things I remember. I'm also good at logic puzzles and math.

I have that too. It helps greatly in Language (Shakespeare) and math because our math teacher won't let us have a reference sheet with formulas. I am absolutely great with computers, I can do anything with them.
