Hey.
I want to make an open world game.
What would be the best language.
I want nice graphics, but allot of capability.
I was thinking of Java, as it is open platform.
What would you think?

If you have to ask, then you surely don't know nearly enough about programming languages to make a game. :P

honestly, just start, anywhere,
create a pong game in a language, if you like it continue from there, if not, at least you've learned somting.

*thumbs up* :)

Java is good for games, but not games where performance is critical (like most retail games or games with lots of fancy graphics -- most of them, if not all, use C/C++).
Minecraft is made in java so if you've played that then you'll have experienced what's possible with java. But if this is your first game then I'd go with what computerlove said and start off small with a game like pong and get more complex until you're confident enough to make your open world game in the language.

Side Note: I've not done anything with java in a while, from what I've heard it's come a long way in terms of performance.

You're welcome :)
I'm currently re-learning 3d.
I use 3ds max, but it's only for Windows, so, to use it on my Mac, I have to launch it, via virtually or via bootcamp... and it's a chore. So, I'm currently doing my best learning 3d software that runs on OSX, and I'm glad 'cause I'll be better off (:
