Just curious...how many people have relatives with some form of ASD? Are any of you the only known people in your family with it?

I am the only diagnosed person with ASD. I am pretty sure my nephew has mild AS. I think we've also pinpointed that it might have come through my grandfather who actually might have had mild-moderate AS. Definitely it is genetic somehow in my family, although it is not widespread.

My dad had symptoms of it but was not diagnosed with it.

My mom's side of the family has a history of mild mental disorders; depression, ADD, etc. We're pretty sure my maternal grandfather had Aspergers like we now know I do.

My dad has symptoms but not a lot. My uncle could have it or is just asocial and doesn't do good with people. My grandmother could have it but I am unsure. My great uncle could have had it or he was just asocial. He also said women and friends and relationships were too much work so he never got married nor had many friends.

Really hard to say. I think about my brother and father in relation to AS and see little bits and pieces. If my brother were to one day tell me he thought he was an Aspie based on personality alone, I wouldn't argue ... but I'm the lucky one who got all the oddball sensory issues to go along with the winning personality and ASD gut.

Nope, at least I know of no ASD in my family.

Mothers side there is depression and one black-sheep but no clear ASD signs, on my dads side there is one uncle with split personalities, but again no sign of ASD at all...my family on both sides are pretty 'normal' - Yey, this makes me special! ^_^

Grandfather, uncle, father, and cousin all have/had many or most of the stronger AS traits.

I don't know. I wouldn't say that there are too many extreme NTs in my family. No one is actually diagnosed with anything, but no one is NT in the way I think of NTs.

There is a very strong genetic connection with me. My mother shows strong signs; I strongly suspect that she is an Aspie. My father's side is prone to depression; my father had some sort of personality disorder, but probably did not have AS. My sister and her children are NTs, but they all have a lot of aspie traits; I suspect that they all are somewhere on the BASP.

My dad has 2 (female) first cousins with Autism, and I am reasonably certain that one of my cousins on my mom's side has some type of ASD. (uncertain for sure, it's rather dificult communicating with my uncle)

No one on my mom's side has anything. My dad has depression of some kind, but I don't know about his siblings, or anyone else, but I'm sure no one alive has ASD.

I get it from my dad, but he seems to have it in a much milder form, or he just copes with it better.

On my dad's side there are a lot of intelligent shy people. On my mom's side she has a lot out going eccentric people not quite crazy but different in a fun way. I think the Aspergers comes from my dad's side of the family and my meaness comes from my mom's side.
