Is it me or do all aspies get comments like "loosen up" , "are you sick?" or "relax". I used to sit very comfortably when I was younger. I still sit relaxedly when I'm alone but when I'm sitting in the presence of more than one person I become tense , literally become like a statue and start feeling anxious.

I'm going to college and I'm worried what people would think of this wierd behavior of mine

My sister used to tell me to relax quite often and I recall a girl telling me to slow down (my walk) in middle school. Wow, now that you mentioned it- people often wonder what I'm thinking because if I don't have a smile on, I generally seem to be concentrating on...something. I noticed that I sweat quite a bit, though I don't feel unusually nervous. Learning about Asperger's and the anxiety that goes with it, I'm starting to think they are related. Any experience with sweating when your not hurried or working out?

I bought some passion flower oil to try- I heard on Dr. Oz that it is good for anxiety. I've only been reading about Asperger's the last couple of days...in fact I just pulled an all nighter reading and watching related videos. Good thing I already called off of work because of a sinus infection.

Can you trick your mind into thinking there aren't so many people around or maybe refocus and rather than think "tense" you can turn it into simply "good posture"?

I have to constantly remind my body to relax. Even when I'm alone, I hold tension by default.

I never have the courage to trick myself into believing that there aren't many people.

He he I have the same problem with my facial expression. People say i have this grim look on my face and ask if I'm feelin all right.

and lol the fast walking too has caused major problems in my life

I have a possible anxiety disorder too, so my muscles in my back and neck are constantly tense. When my anxiety's bad, people will often tell me to relax and let things go...but it really isn't that easy. Relaxation is often something I really need to work at...it doesn't happen instantly, and never does.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I remember being told to relax a lot in college by certain professors. They were very relaxed in technique and posture, and I was very serious, sitting upright, hand cramping around my pen, concentrating hard. I find that often to be the case in public, even the grocery store. I get very serious. I guess it's nervousness. But it's definitely not just you. :)

I get told that quite often. I usually tense up when I'm not comfortable where I am. If I'm in a new environment with new people I get really tense. It's only when I feel more comfortable with my surroundings that I can loosen up. I have mild anxiety so that contributes to it too. I guess part of it is I'm constantly wondering what people think of me when in reality I shouldn't care at all.
