edit: if Alex isn't creating much on the site at the moment, how would the mods feel about stickying a thread for practical issues instead? (if people are interested that is!)

This would be interesting. For example, I just learned that there is a spell check for IE, and I use it because, though my spelling is adequate, I make a lot of typos due to dyspraxia.
One thing, though, about such an inclusive sub forum/sticky: There will be a lot of random topics/posts. How do you find the one you might want within the forum? If I want a recipe for a chicken dish, how do I amble through all the posts to find it? Perhaps I could just use the search function here, but then why the need for the practical matters thread/forum anyway?
But I would still read this thread for curiosity.

Yeah, the reason I asked for a subforum was because if it was successful, there would end up being a lot of random topics to wade through - or possibly the opposite and one post ends up dominating the whole thread... Though if, as Tallyman says, Alex isn't making new forums anymore, a sticky thread is probably the best thing.

I'm not sure if Random discussion is the right place- it seems to be mainly full of 'fun' threads like the role-playing subforum; if I were hunting for actual advice, I probably wouldn't think to go there- maybe if I mark it *not a game* :p

Do you ever find it actually picking wrong words for you? TallyMan had once mentioned this some time back, and I find I have to keep an eye on the actual "spelling corrections" being made!
Edit: "Donald Duck" had once commented about some day letting/blaming a typewriter (for) do(ing) his spelling for him, but now it seems the machine also presumes to compose.

I make a point of knowing what I post and when I run the check I make sure if it does pick something that is not a correction I tell it to ignore or ignore all. I still recheck the post once it has gone to the thread and if I find the odd thing there that is strange I then I go back to edit. Examples of this are the odd bracket thrown in, or an extra period dot.

it was interesting while it lasted though.
Ah well, Alex isn't making new sections, so what I might do when I get a chance is trawl through and try to make a thread indexing practical questions that people have already asked..
