I recently moved here from the east coast not long ago and I don't know anybody. I was wondering if there is anyone from the surrounding region that is relatively close to me. I would like to hopefully find a friend.

You might try this group. I went to the meetup twice when I was working in Austin this Spring.

It is for 18 and up (don't know from your profile if you are,) and is pretty laid back.
I am only in Austin area for part of the year, or I'd meet for coffee, etc.
