I have an Acer Aspire 7552G. At the time I bought it, it was by far the most powerful laptop for the money available.

I built mine myself. No reason to be ripped off by a manufacturer when I can save hundreds of dollars and do it all myself.

A year and a half ago, it cost me about $900 in parts (including tax and shipping). Today, I saw a desktop model for sale online with almost the exact same specifications for $1,100.

Doing it myself does take a lot of time and research, but I actually enjoyed it as computer hardware is a special interest of mine.

I built mine desktop for around 600 with the monitor a year and half ago. I would consider it a mid level gaming rig back then. If you have the time and patience I would recommend building your own.

Ah, but that only really works for desktop machines.

I don't actually know. Where a bouts would the actual, official name be? I've never been happy with this XPSVTQ 57000509 HP Ultra Extreme business.

Built my own, cost about £900 and was mid to high end about 3 years ago. I'm actually going to be building a new one within the next few months!

Custom built desktop that was state of the art when it was built 6 years ago. My laptop is only two years old and is a low end Compaq.

Have you looked at the BIOS setup screen? It usually gives the computer model there.

I own:

an Inspiron 9300 laptop with a BIOS upgrade to allow the use of a 7800gtx vidcard. I had been overclocking it using a processor pinmod, but the powerpack flared and nearly caused an electrical fire. Glad I was in my flat at the time, now it just runs standard. I have ordered a repalcement motherboard from ebay with SATA compatibility( currently only IDE) and plan putting an ssd in;

DH55HC based HTPC with Kingston V+ SSD, combi HDDVD/Blu-ray drive and HD5770 for playing games;

Commell LV675-D based mini-itx for playing around. It houses a Pentium M 2.1 Dothan which I may try to overclock if I get bored, but trying to hold off from potentially damaging it. I bought a PATA/IDE module disk for it which is like a budget/ industrial ssd, the read/write throughput is no better than a standard HDD but should be better at small OS style reads. At full load it draws only 50 watts, which I think is pretty cool. I want to use it to better learn about webservers and networking but am not finding the time at the moment.

XBOX360 for playing Halo.

I used to have a BBC Model B microcomputer, which I miss, but gave it to a relative. I sometimes use an emulator to reminisce and play simple old games that were available like Elite, though the windows remake Oolite is superior in many ways.

Did own an Atari Jaguar but lent it to a friend and he gave it away to his neighbour :x Aliens vs Predator was awesome on this system at the time.
