Watched a couple of foreign films this weekend and it got me curious: is there a particular non-English language you prefer in international films?

Myself, I always liked films in Japanese and Mandarin. I've only seen a few in Spanish, Portuguese and Swedish, but they were also good. Interestingly, Danish and French films are usually hit or miss.

I like international movies from everywhere, but I like Chinese movies very much. I try to avoid French movies.

A good comedy is Absurdistan. I think its Russian;or in one of those old USSR freed countries.

Mandarin movies are usually the ones I enjoy most. The rest cuontries' films are more hit and miss; even japan.

Once upon a time in highschool --last foreign film I watched. Not a best example; has crude moments and bad language; which I don't mind. This one is Korean by the way.

I loved Guillermo Del Toro's The Devil's Backbone, which is a Spanish language film.

I don't prefer one language over another, but I can recommend plenty of good movies in foreign languages. Off the top of my head:

Purple Noon (1960, French)
Yojimbo (1961, Japanese)
Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979, German)
Wings of Desire (1987, German)
La Femme Nikita (1990, French)
City of God (2002, Portuguese)
