I'm working on my eye contact but I really don't like it for the following reasons: it feels uncomfortable, intimidating, overstimulating and it also feels like I'm in the spotlight.

I try to make eye contact and start conversations or try to keep conversations going. I'm really bad at it though, which is why I have no friends and there's always a weird atmosphere with my family.

Plenty of precious lil "people" told me that I made too much eye contact

Some told me "look at me when I am talking to you"

So you can't satisfy everyone

So just satisfy the first paragraph

Social talk, same thing

Better to get told off for not enough social talk, than too much

Besides some people are homophobic and they might exterminate me because you do not know who has a rifle

I've gotten better with eye contact as I've gotten older and it had to be learned. Admittedly, I still struggle with it. I look away a lot when I gather my thoughts together because I find it overwhelming and hard to put my thoughts into words when making eye contact.

My difficulty with eye contact shows even more when I'm stressed and/or dealing with people who I find draining or I don't particularly like.

I normally look at someone’s forehead and/or chin instead of eyes when I talk to people at work, since I absolutely hate direct eye contact. It’s like, I don’t like staring directly into your soul every time I talk to you, coworker! I think I’m able to make it look enough like eye contact that people don’t think I’m super weird.

I can make eye contact for very specific intervals. It's much easier for me when I create a pattern (e.g. eye contact for two seconds, look away for five seconds, repeat). Most people won't be paying close enough attention to pick up on it. You could also look somewhere around their eyes (eyebrows, eyelashes, etc.) to give the effect of eye contact without actually doing it.
