I for one am glad to see this sentiment. It might get repealed, and most churches won't honor it, but at least it's a gesture in the right direction.

Most churches should at least honor the concept of gay engagements.

It probably won't get conceded by the public until the voters get a referendum.

Why? What good would that do the church, much less gays?

John Browning, to your last question, my question is why not?

Can you think of something positive they can add to a church congregation that straight people can't?

Well for one thing, churches that focus on the acceptance and tolerance of other people regardless of who they are and what they do are more than likely to be seen in a positive light by those outside the church than a church who turns such people away because of wild unproven theories and an obsession to protect dated concepts that no longer work in a modern society. Churches who want to attract followers won't do so if they focus on the bylaws that isolate and condemn innocent people who don't deserve that isolation and condemning to begin with. I don't recall Jesus doing any of that when reading the King James Bible.

For somebody raised by ignorance, I like your reasoning.

This is a progressive leap for us here in New York - I view gay marriage as a civil rights issue, than a liberal one.

I would like to also give appreciation towards Roy McDonald the Republican senator who represents my district in New York State. He was the famous Republican who uttered,

"You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn't black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing. You might not like that. You might be very cynical about that. Well, f**k it, I don't care what you think. I'm trying to do the right thing. I'm tired of Republican-Democrat politics. They can take the job and shove it. I come from a blue-collar background. I'm trying to do the right thing, and that's where I'm going with this." Because of him the bill passed.

Alittle about Mr. Mcdonald-- His two grandchildren are Autistic. He is a leader for the Autism Awareness community, and I whole heartily agree with this man about his views to embrace change and do whats right. Isn't it great that our political system isn't Theocratic, and instead we have separation of Religion from State ?

* On a side note , I'd also like to give appreciation towards Gov. Cuomo, and N.Y. Legislature for Reaching Agreement on a Landmark Autism Insurance Reform Bill. This is a huge victory.

To me, it's all about equality and treating all Americans with equality and dignity. That's it.

Very poor argument. Let’s try it elsewhere:

“Why should we allow black people to [insert activity here]? What can they bring to it that white people can’t?”

It was a question. Do they know of anything that gays can contribute to a church congregation within the parameters of scripture? I don't.

Within the parameters of scripture, my parents should be excluded for not putting me to death for cursing them.
