Here is a working version of the video I found.
A lot of people will backlash against this video because they equate Independence Day with Memorial Day. They will most likely say that videos like this take away from our troops commitment & courage when Independence Day celebrates the anniversary our forefathers & foremothers helped discuss, create, sign, and send to King Georgie the declaration of independence.
We have come a long way from our founding parents in rights for individuals. We fought vigorously and still continue to fight vigorously for equal protection and consideration for all our citizens. The recent legislation by the extreme right against the reproductive rights of women, cutting planned parenthood, and attempting to redefine rape. It is backward. We should we ashamed.
This country's populance still largely believes this country was founded to be a Christian country. They are largely unaware that the ideals we had were from the Enlightenment and philosophers who were often punished for their ideas by the "God chosen" Kings of Europe. Did you know our country's original motto was "One Made of Many" before it was "In God we Trust"? People don't care about our true history so long as a lie supports their religion. As a member of the LGBT community, I feel subjected and treated as a second class citizen. I only pay my taxes to the government and country I think wishes I were not here.
I don't celebrate the fourth of July by watching the fireworks or watching parades. I celebrate by reading the declaration of constitution, bill of rights, and the declaration of independence. We would be an even more amazing country if we as a whole could appreciate the message of our founding documentation.
Thank you so much for finding/posting a working video!
I am also a member of the LGBT community, and am right there with you. I'm not sure if I agree or disagree with the movement stated in the video, though. It's not that I don't think they have a point. I just don't think refusing to celebrate a holiday will accomplish much.
