I find that playing PC games isn't a bad distraction, as you can really zone out from the world. I'd like to get some more PC games but I'm not really sure which ones I should try, so does anybody have any reccomendations? :)

I have the sims 2 and the sims 3 and I love the games but they don't work too well on my computer. They freeze and crash a lot and are generally a bit slow and my laptop tends to overheat quickly. I also have Spore which works a lot better and which is quite a good game.

Any suggestions would be welcome :D

1. A small fan to augment computer case airflow and placement of your computer nearby to the air conditioner if it's not already. If your computer doesn't have a video board (other than built into the motherboard) you may want to see about getting a video board and a new power supply, but make sure that you get ones with the right connectors before buying any.

2. Sword of the Stars, Sins of a Solar Empire, Starpoint Gemini, Halo 1 & 2, Rome Total War & Barbarian Invasion, East India Company, Battlestations Pacific, Sol Survivor, Age of Empires 2 with Conquerors expansion, Command & Conquer: The First Decade (if you have XP, vista absolutely sucks), Age of Empires 3, Space Station Sim (if you want to build the ISS and micromanage the astronauts), and possibly Call of Juarez (only have played the demo of that, the rest I have and have played the full versions thereof).

Hmm, what genres of games are you into? It'll help us make suggestions

Anyways, these are my personal favorites:

Half Life 2 + Episode One & Two
Team Fortress 2 (free! :))
Portal
Battlefield (any of them, 1942, Vietnam, 2 etc.)
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Warcraft III

Posting your system specs might be helpful too. If The Sims games are freezing, there's probably a reason for that. Either your hardware is dying, or it's not supported, which probably means it's really old. Do you know how to get a DXDiag file?

True. There's also the Baldur's Gate series (/!\ I speak about those PC, the XBox Baldur's Gate aren't the same games) which are awesome.

Maybe you'd like to narrow it down a bit for us?

You could try browsing through Home of the Underdogs's Top Dogs and see if anything strikes your fancy? http://hotud.org/top-rated

For C&C: The First Decade, how does it run on Windows 7??? Cuz I might try some of these myself.

City of Heroes is my favorite game and I was playing it and talking about it a lot for a while there. It is going free to play too later this year. For any computer gaming I recommend maxing out your RAM and lowering your graphics settings until you get smooth game play.
