1. The last encounter I had with a human being was dinner with my boss and the members of a work-related workshop on Monday. The last purely social encounter I had was 25 days ago (Wednesday, July 2nd).

2. Lately, I've been experiencing mood swings several times a day.

3. My emotional state leaves me unable to focus on work.

4. I've become isolated to my residence, which has become a squalor.

This period of social isolation is involuntary. I have no friends in this city that I can contact. This is severely affecting both my productivity and mood.

that sucks. have you ever gone through times like that before? what city are you in? most urban areas have crisis centers and meet up programs that can give you somewhat of a support system. are you just lonely or are there other things that might be making you depressed and/or anxious (medications, falling out with family...etc)?

i'm glad you posted here though. that means that you know you can pull yourself out of this and that there is hope. :-)

I'm sorry. I have nothing productive to add other than I've been exactly where you are, I know how soul-numbing that can feel. I don't know your whole situation, but I hope you're able to find a way to be okay with your situation if you're unable to change it. I know what's worked for me in the past: if I'm in that place where internet or phone contact with family/friends is not available or not helping, I try and occupy my mind with other things. I'm pretty good at being alone, and if left to my own devices I don't really do anything social either, so I write, or read, or...my favorite pastime: nap :)

If you just want to get out of the house and you have the money, take a weekend trip somewhere - I've done it. The change of scenery is refreshing. Last summer, when I got really desperate for something to take my mind off what was going on, I went on a used bookstore hunt - I compiled a list of all the books I've wanted to buy, including out of print ones, and hunted down every used bookstore I could find in the greater Chicago area, by myself because then I didn't have to adhere to anyone's time schedule but my own. For some reason, that little project did wonders for my state of mind.

Are you allowed to have pets where you live? If you like animals, having one around is a great mood lifter too. I hope this helps in some way. Feel free to keep venting, too.

I ended up moving back in with my parents for a few weeks. I almost lost it. Thank you very much for the replies.

Yes. When I live alone, this pattern seems to emerge once or twice a year.

Tuscaloosa, Alabama

My job had me pulling consecutive all-nighters, and I had another failed attempt at romance the previous month. I think the high level of stress is what made this more severe than similar episodes I've had in the past.

I was not allowed to own pets at my residence.

I do not own a vehicle (currently working my way through college - can't spare much money), so I was limited to walking distance.
