Reminds me of a story... Went to go see "The Peacemaker" with a friend. Knowing that I'm well-read on such matters, on the drive home after the movie she asks me what the deal was with "the little nuke they took out of the big nuke".
I explaned about how thermonuclear weapons (H-Bombs) work with the fission primary igniting the Lithium Deutridiride(sp) secondary (and for the really big ones, a uranium tertiary stage for a fission-fusion-fission reaction). Then a bit about nuclear weapons (A-Bombs) and the differences between gun-type uranium devices and plutonium implosion versions and how the latter can get a higher yield with deutritium gas boosting. Then I went on about tactical & strategic use of such weapons, and levels of escalation. When I got to the bit about why you would "salt" a warhead with cobalt or gold, I glanced over & saw the look of absolute horror on her face. I stopped, grinned, & said, "You know, there may even be a reason why I don't get many second dates..."
