I ask because I'd like to ascertain whether I am, in fact, guilty as charged.

Since others here clearly are more informed than me, can I ask your opinion. This is not to start a flame war or anything and not meant to insult anyone, but I would like to know if my ideas are on the wrong track or not.

Firstly, Jews (some anyway I think) celebrate passover with a role-play of Moses fleeing ancient Egypt with unleven bread (no time to let rise) and being pursued by the ancient Egyptians.

Role plays can imprint deeply on the mind and cause lasting effects IRL. I had done some role plays as training exercises with work. These had to be supervised by a shrink to make sure that we "got out or role" at the end.

Its not a big leap to go from role play about ancient Egyptians to modern day Egytians and arabs being your hated enemy. This would be a problem with Israelis coming to any reconciliation with Palestinians/Arabs.

Secondly, the Koran is full of passages like
"Let not believers make friends with infidels ... he that does this has nothing to hope for from God". This is a mild one.

Therefore the Arab religon is a big hurdle to any friendship and reconciliation.

Neither seem to me to have any concept of "turn the other cheek" but more "an eye for an eye".

Is there any hope for the middle east?

PS - for the record, I was brought up Presbyterian but now have more liking for Anglican (Episcopalian)
