After watching an episode of Bridezillas earlier I noticed this: these women bully and harass their boyfriends and go out of their way to make their lives hell. This however is used as entertainment and the commentator talks about how funny it is and down plays the seriousness of their situation.
The women on this episode kept talking about how it's their wedding and the fiancée has nothing to do with it, and if he makes a suggestion the woman would scream and yell at him and sometimes even use physical intimidation so he submits to her. The woman's and husband's friends are always cringing in the background, her friends may laugh nervously but are obviously uncomfortable. The women don't let their husbands go out and force them to come home when they're in a mood, and don't give him any freedom yet she does what the hell she wants when she wants. These women intimidate their boyfriends then confuse things by giving them a kiss and saying "I love you", so manipulating him to submit to her. These men are trapped in those relationships. And this makes good TV????
At one point a man was 5 minutes late for the cake tasting so his girlfriend and her friend did it without him and the woman purposely chose fruits he hates (and is intolerant to) just to spite him. And said she didn't care if he had an allergic reaction and died because she'd get the life insurance.

If the husbands were treating their wives that way, yelling at her when they speak, pushing her around etc he would be seen as some sort of monster that should be locked away immediately. Yet these women are blatantly verbally, mentally and physically abusing their husbands and it's used as light entertainment and a bit of a laugh. It's ridiculous.

Neurotypical humans do find that sort of thing entertaining. They spend the better part of their days gossiping about things just like that, and the entire genre called 'Reality Television' is nothing but people abusing, berating and scheming to humiliate other people.

I suppose that's why they enjoy war so much - there's always gotta be somebody to be hatin' on.

I watched parts of it when skipping channels, it was painful to watch after a few minutes.

Shows like that are so over the top, but there's also a lot of truth in them. I've seen quite a few guys fall for bitchy, demanding, and overbearing women in real life. There's got to be a psychology to it, but I'm too lazy to look into it.

Ive never watched it, but it does not sound like the man is in for a good marriage. Abusive behaviour is bad no matter which gender it shows up in.

I saw a preview for one where the bride yells at the already- (um, shall we say) "inebriated" wedding party to "Don't be f*cking cursing on the godd*mn trolley" (Cause she wanted a tram ride to be part of her wedding? ) and that to do so would be "low CLAY-uss".

I think these shows are a perfect example of how not to be now if only people weren't so gullible to actually imitate such behavior in their lives. I know of people who think their lives are America Top Model or American Idol. If they are in the position of picking and choosing people they treat it as if they are judges from these reality tv shows.

This is exactly why I don't have a TV.

If I want to watch a movie, I have lots on DVD. If I like a TV show, I can get it on DVD. If someone makes a funny joke on TV, it will show up on youtube. If I want news, it will show up on google.

You get to skip so many commercials this way, too.
