I've seen my fair share of strange fetishes here on DA. Fetishes I never knew existed but I guess one can have a fetish with anything. But apparently I have a fetish with veterinary medicine. Or at least Lion King characters in those kind of situations. I also wonder if "fetish" is a slang term for obsession or fascination. Yes I am obsessed with the field, but then someone who is obsessed with their chosen field would probably be very good at it. I don't know about most other people, but if something happened to Pippin, Bubba, Spot, Stella, Aengus or Ophelia I'd want them to see someone who knew what they were doing. Anyway, if they mean intense fascination or obsession... then say that. But the way this person said it and rejected some of my pictures for submission to their club, it sounded as if they found it a weird, sexual fetish. I've only had one picture that was suggestive sexually. It was Nala from The Lion King holding her tail across her crotch and looking at the viewer very suggestively. Her pants were unzipped and you could see her undies. I probably should have given her breasts, but I hate it when people put human esque "boobies" on animals. Ever wonder why you've never seen any Rouge the bat art from me? Seriously, Sega! What were you thinking? Cream's mum has them but then she has a child. I'm kind of forgiving of "boobies" if it is clearly established said character is a mother. In the animal kingdom, females don't develop breasts until they get pregnant. Anyway, I removed that picture because I don't want to be associated with "yiff" art or furry porn. Mostly I removed it because I have a niece and nephews who look at my art and I don't want them looking at that sort of thing. Anyway, it was very tame compared to half the things I have seen. So someone please explain to me what is so "fetishy" about my vet themed pics

Without having seen them, maybe it's because these people are secretly afraid they might be turned on if they don't say something.

Oh, those are delightful, MM!

What kind of club were you submitting them for?

MMMMMMMmmmmm I just remembered an episode of CSI in which a convention of very odd people were at a Vegas night club or casino, and their "thing" is dressing up like animals and committing sex with each other, and there were a lot of them there -- very kinky. Being CSI, of course, one of them got murdered while playing. I wonder if that kind of thing was what the person was referring to?

Thank you! It was a Lion King club.

They're called furries.

The fetish side is furries. Usually a fetish involves something sexual in nature but not always - it can be just a strong obsession.

Drawing animals doing human things is called anthropomorphism and it is a long standing genre in comics and anime but the tradition of attributing human traits to animals is an ancient one. When searching for other like minded people just search for 'anthro' - hopefully that will steer you somewhat clear of the more sexual side a 'fetish' search term might pop up.

MM, I like those too!

draelynn and Verdandi, thank you for the information.

Yes, Aesop's fables were talking animals acting like humans, and long before Aesop there were cave paintings, no words, of course, maybe 25,000 years old, of humans dressed in animal skins and dancing, or maybe making magic for a good hunt.

Those are very good pictures that you've worked on. Have you thought of selling your art?

Yes. I'm in LOTS of Lion King clubs on DA. I just wondered if this really does count as a fetish.

Thank you. Yes, but I can't find a dealer and have no idea where to find one. I don't know if I could sell any of my Lion King http://phoenix-kat.deviantart.com/gallery/24567544 or Sonic http://phoenix-kat.deviantart.com/gallery/30606654 stuff, but I want to sell my watercolors:

I'm considering taking digital commissions on DA. I've done request for other people a few times: http://phoenix-kat.deviantart.com/gallery/27245131. Might as well get something for it. I could always tell people that I don't draw people, porn, male pregnancy, tourture, yaoi/yuri (go ahead and call me homophobic if you want), bondage, inflation (the strangest fetish I have ever come across), pedophelia, etc. before I ever agree to a comission.

I am, of course, aware of the sexual nature or aspect of the word "fetish", but as a beadworker my first thought is of beads shaped like rather abstract animals or birds, or a sacred object, usually artistic, worn or carried about the person.

DA is becoming a s**thole. As long as you don't make furry art because it's a fetish, it's cool. It isn't really my thing, but I try to stay somewhat tolerant. You're an exception though as I know it's just your obsession.

Here's what you should avoid doing on DA: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1098770

Nothing wrong with having a fetish. What you drew are considered furries because the animals are like people. Nothing to be ashamed of. Furries is considered a fetish by society and fetish doesn't always mean it's sexual. Furry isn't sexual for everyone.

The person told me the vet theme is what is "fetishy". Maybe I didn't make that clear in my first post. Lion King has always been considered part of the "furry" genera.
