1 year doesn't make all that much difference, and if you'd told her the truth, then there would not have been any problem. The difference between being 5 years older or 6 years older is much less significant than lying to her. Why did you do this? Lying for no reason about even small things is a big red flag that one does well not to ignore.

Still ,it doesn't seem like a breakup would be warranted over such a small matter.I know I don't particularly like to reveal my age . I don't think not being so truthfull about one's age necessarily means you will be dishonest in all other aspects of life.Perhaps the OP felt his girlfriend wouldn't have been interested had he told her his true age[one year ,big deal!!] .Maybe it's for the best OP.

Generally, I advise against lying. It's just easier to be truthful. If you're lying about something small, then what's the point? If you're lying about something big, then it's time to ask "Why am I doing this?".

I can see why she would break up....

The only option you have now is to explain to her exactly why you lied to her (whatever it is), the whole truth and to apologize for it.

I am not saying there's much chance that she'll return to you, but you have to do this anyways if you're man enough.

Ok, forgive me but why was lying for minus 1 year was so important?

You aroused my curiosity. Normally, a person will lie because they are 4 or more years older. Why just 1? If you answer the question, I will see if I can write a good answer to explain for your crime.

I don't see the point in drilling him about it, it's done. He has learned the lesson for next time.

Poster should know that the responses are ussually a reflection of the first post.

If you had taken your time to post something worthwile then you would not get these kinds of responses.

There is no interesting statement in your post to discuss, there is no question either.

I don't know what's more strange, someone dumping a person over such an insignificant lie, or the fact someone even lied about their age by one year to begin with (and it's not around the age of consent).

I was wondering about that, too. I don't know why someone would pretend they're only one year younger. What's the difference?
