What's the difference between a beautiful man and a handsome or hot one?

8)

I mean men in general, not just Andrej Pejic.

That's a good question. I don't recall ever describing a man as anything but sexy or attractive.

Yeah, but I'm gay, so I think I'm disqualified.

But I'd say that beautiful and handsome are about the same thing. Although maybe beautiful is a bit stronger an adjective.

Of course, every straight guy knows that complimenting another man on his appearance automatically makes you gay. I mean, do you think I was born gay? Please. That's just what the liberal media wants you to believe. Nope, I was just walking down the street one day with my totally female girlfriend, and she wanted to go see Good Will Hunting. I called Matt Damon attractive while we were watching it and BAM! Instant gay, right then and there. That's how they get you.

Cheers, yes it's very subjective... I'm not a fan of Keanu, Brad or Orlando (they're not "beautiful" to me).

Some of the others on your list I'll have to look up :)

I think Cary Grant and Montgomery Clift are beautiful men (I mean when they were alive, obviously!)

Beautiful to me is a strong word that encompasses more than looks; it also refers to the person's nature, or soul. I think I would only use it to describe someone I knew. A character in a film can be "beautiful" to me though.

try watching one of those sword n' sandal epics such as the thief of bagdad, and see if sabu doesn't pop out at you as one gorgeous man. also i just remembered john phillip law and harve presnell and clint eastwood in his rowdy yates days.

lots of beauty is only skin-deep. some folk are quite ugly inside even though they are greek-statue lovely externally.

yes i have described a man as beautiful. maybe not to his face though. to me a beautiful man is one who has features that i find handsome, but in addition he seems to glow with something (love, inner peace, strong faith or the like), and he would also have excellent character and a certain positive effect on others. so he would be one who seems to shine with bother inner and outer beauty. 'handsome' or 'attractive' or 'sexy' don't do that type of person justice.

I'm a guy, and I have been called "beautiful" several times by another guy who is rather fond of me. :)

I was recently thinking about this too. There's a song by Toad the Wet Sprocket:

"Fly From Heaven"
They took my brother
They ripped him from me
To twist his words as they did his body
Denied his family
Denied his beauty
To lie him down at the feet
Of those he couldn't save
Couldn't save, couldn't save

Mick Avory is the most beautiful man that I've seen pictures of. He was very beautiful in the 60s.

I definitely agree with you about Johnny Depp. In my honest opinion, I think he is still beautiful even when he wears copious amounts of makeup and outlandish costumes for his roles in Tim Burton's movies - as a matter of fact, that's actually when I consider him to be at his most beautiful. You have no idea how happy I was to discover that his version of Barnabas Collins from the upcoming Dark Shadows film looks like a vampiric Mad Hatter.

I also agree with you about Patrick Swayze and John Cameron Mitchell - they were easily the most beautiful characters in To Wong Foo and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, respectively.
