To me libertarianism seems like the ideal ideology for Aspies. (I might explain why I think this later on.)

It sounds like I'll fit in great here then, because I'm a libertarian and an agnostic, and although I'm not a gun owner I support Second Amendment rights.

I am a Libertarian, and a Christian, and I really don't see what guns have to do with anything.

Imagine the secret police come to your door at 3 in the morning and tell you to go with them.

What do you do??

1) Do as you're told

2) Shoot them in the face

I'm not Libertarian. I actually happen to be a Democratic Socialist. I hate Capitalism with a passion. Actually, I'm not a *complete* Democratic Socialist...I have a few ideals that waver off from the mainstream of Democratic Socialism. But, for the most part, that's what political affiliation I'd align myself with.

Just lately i've been trying to figure out what party I agree with any more. I used to be something of an ultra liberal democrat. I'm keeping my damn gun though.

I was once interested in Libertarian philosophy. I even voted for Harry Brown in '96. Then I began to disagree with their laissez-faire approach to the environment and population growth.

Yes, I understand that. What I was saying is that I didn't see why, after revealing yourself as a Libertarian, you felt the need to make sure people were absolutely certain you believed in the 2nd Amendment. Doesn't that come included with the Libertarian package?

An ideology is just a belief in something for whatever reason and the fact that we have these beliefs ultimately shapes our worldview causing us to see the real problems and the rational solutions based upon this. I am trying to be as fair about that assessment as possible. I think I have a libertarian streak though to be honest.

Yes, epistemology determines ideology.

Yes, I guess you have a point. I have'nt ever seen an anti-gun Libertarian. I guess you could be Libertarian and not care one way or the other??

I am a libertarian, a non church going Christian, and a gun owner.

Apart from being fun (it's hard to go duck hunting without one), gun ownership reflects a state of mind and guns are an equaliser. With political power getting more and more centralised, they are a good reminder that power rests with the people, so that the secret police will never knock on scrapheap's door in the first place.

I hope Litigious will back me up, but the difference b/w Europe and America (to a distant observer) - European since recorded history has been controlled. Monarchies require subordination and for people to know their place. America values the individual. Australia is somewhere in between. Europeans are used to being controlled and to be controlled governments don't want them armed. Americans have the right to bear arms, to defend freedom. Owning a gun is symbolic of being prepared to or at least wanting to defend freedom and I hope we never have to.
