Although i try my best to eat a healthy diet , I hate a lot of foods from mushrooms to tomatoes to prunes , i am also highly allergic to a lot of foods (and other things) to the extent i go into anaphlactic shock if i eat kiwis ... The result is i would be a nightmare to take to restaurant (if i hadn't had steak and chips nearly every time i go eat out with the exception of the same pizza in a pizzeria or other simple meat dishes if steak and chips isn't available). My diet is extremely restricted and i go for plain and simple foods is this pretty normal for an aspie ?

In my case, I always ate the same food since my birth because the others make me... sick. I don't have allergies (as far as I can tell, I never tried to eat some "normal food" in fact, so...), but it's not "weird" for Aspies to don't like a lot of food, they may have a very restricted "diet".

currently i am a culinary student and for very obvious reason i have to taste and/or sample a multitude of foods
~i am alergic to certain foods, of which i dont even taste
~there is foods i do NOT like at all, but i still need to know if it is good quality or not
~and finally there is foods i strait up have a very negative autistic sensory response to (goat cheese) where i have to spit it out the second it touches my tongue

if you really do have allergetic responses to certain foods, then avoid them. however, ALL ASPIES should make a effort to try new things in life including food. in my experience in food sampling, find a food you like and know well, then order same exact dish at another restaurant (try to avoid chains if possible). lets say u like chicken strips at a certain bowling alley, why not try the chicken strips at a friend's local bar (provided they dont just order pre-made crap from a major food distributor). knowing this is a aspie forum, substitute chicken strips for what ever food you want to get to know well and try at different locations (__________ dish at XXXX-restauraunt and try same _______dish at XXXX-dining location)

but please, try new and diverse foods. as we all know, autism sensory issues can give bad responses, but also can give amazing good responses to certain textures, smells, colours.

Your so right in my adult life i have experiences so much more , spices, international cuisine . with in the foods i do like and not allergic too there is a lot of room for variety ... as a kid for example i wanted only plain chicken with plain potatoes and certain veg ... now i am happy with lots of different chicken dishes ... i am beginning to experience and enjoy more foods ... and i know what you mean by the very strong autisc response i get that with tomotoes , dried fruit (raisins , dates , prunes etc) and cooked mushrooms ( ilike them raw!)

Foods I hate? Black licorice! Black coffee (not a food, but whatever...) Blue cheese. There are foods I am not overly fond of, but those are ones I truly HATE.

Allergies: red dye, wheat, dairy, caffeine, preservatives, and sensitive to all chemicals in foods. I don't avoid everything I am allergic too because I don't get severe reactions. I am actually allergic to A LOT of things though, so I have mild reactions nearly everyday.

I don't have any food allegies but there's foods I don't like.

Brussel Sprouts: yuk they make me gag.
Peas: don't like the taste.
Cabbage: I only like it when its in coleslaw.

Not too keen on those custardy tart things they don't look appetising to me.

I have no allergies, but I refuse to eat fish or beans. The hate of fish is justified, but the phobia of beans is probably just me being extremely irrational as I don't even remember what beans taste like.

I can't stand fast food/junk food or anything overly processed and pumped with preservatives. I might be a little bit elitist in that regard but it's amazing what people don't realize they are putting into their bodies with all the cheap, convenient food out there.

Other than that I've never been a fan of mushrooms, stews, bratwurst, cooked carrots, or black licorice.

I LOVE indian food and seafood!

No allergies, but I don't like peas. They feel mushy when I eat them, but I eat them anyway, because I just mix them in with whatever else is on the plate. :D

Wow, I eat damned near anything. I guess I to help me compensate for my lack of...whatever, God made me with the great ability to try everything. My father introduced me to lots of foods when I was younger, and I didn't eat/like everything but he was happy with me trying and eating like...80% of it. However, he'd get mad at my mom and sisters (NTs) who would refuse to try most of the food he cooked.

So, I'm better at trying and eating food than most people I know. Maybe all people I know. Oddly, my only aversions to various foods are like "normal" foods. I hate white bread, like Wonder Bread kinda stuff, ick. Nasty. I don't very much like Nestle chocolate, it doesn't taste very chocolatey to me at all. I don't like eating plain food at all, I have to kinda heavily season and spice everything I eat. That said, though, as long as the food is safe, I'll pretty much eat anything. After prison food, my tolerance for food is pretty high, despite me being a huge food critic, if I've determined food is safe to eat, and I'm hungry, I'll eat it.

Food and cooking is in fact probably one of my special interests/hobbies. When I was younger, I had random little things in food I didn't like, for exampled, boned chicken. But, got older, learned to eat it. I'm probably borderline Andrew Zimmern. Weirdest food I've ever eaten would be jellyfish, cooked and safe species to eat obviously, but yeah. I don't like, "love" it, but it's interesting once in a while. Basically it feels like you're eating cartilage and salad, which is not a texture and taste I'm a huge fan of. Octopus and squid is great, too, I love that stuff. Hmm, I used to not like avocados, but I tried them again and found out I liked them after not eating them for a couple years. Heh.

So yeah, being borderline Andrew Zimmern, yeah, opposite of you all in the thread. No food allergies at all either. Woohoo.

OH WAIT, I do have one allergy. Aspartame. Aspartame makes my eyes burn and gives me headaches and makes me hate everything ever. I don't know if it's an issue of it not agreeing with me or that it's toxic, but I don't keep drinking it to find out.

One other thing to add, love mushrooms. I had a mushroom sandwich today, made in the style of a philly cheese steak, but with mushrooms instead of beef. Marvelous.

I seem to hate about 95% of all food, so I can definitely relate. My diet is incredibly restricted and I basically eat the same 5 things.
