The only problem is that there is no one who you actually know who uses this, so it's useless when you need to communicate with peers, who all use Facebook more than email.

That's sort of an advantage isn't it?

I'm glad there's no like button. I was once on a very weird site - some serious political message about a difficult adult subject. I didn't agree with the conclusion, but I thought the writer had done a very good job. I saw a "like" button and thought the writer should get some encouragement, so clicked it. To my horror, this was connected to Facebook. I very seldom hit "like" in Facebook, and suddenly everyone I knew got a message saying "Firstname Lastname likes this disturbing topic!" Likes are dangerous.

Besides, it's redundant here. I like you all. So take it as read. :)

lol, I hate when that happens, especially if it was a porn site. Imagine, "<name> like <insert bats*** insane kind of porn here>" popping up because you accident click it and your family and friends all see it, way too late to recant.

But here's an interesting question, why no dislike button? Seriously, that would loads more fun and useful. :D

Precisely. You all know how Facebook works, I don't even have a clue. No intention of joining either.

The forum system badly needs updating before this site is better than anything but another dated phpBB2 forum.

Anything is better than facebook.

Facebook sucks.

Ubiquity <> excellence.

Huh?

The forum currently runs on a modified version of phpBB2, which is severely outdated and inferior to newer, more advanced forum systems, such as vBulletin, or even phpBB3.

Yes. Yes, I think it is. I have never quite fully immersed myself in the vast and wondrous social media phenomenon. This is the only site that I post on (and Red Bubble very rarely)

Facebook/Twitter/letmebombardyouwithastreamoffecklessnonsense.com have just never really appealed to me.

'omg rly lukin 4ward 2 seein jayz on sat . . .'

'Alert. Louise has just had a bowel movement . . .'

'Dmitri Shostakovich has added you as a friend . . .'

etc etc etc . . .

The newest version of vBulletin would be brilliant!

It's really not too bad and can actually be beneficial if the social networking site has a well-defined purpose - like Flickr, for example - but otherwise, yes, it can otherwise come across in large part as a collection of feckless minutiae.

It really would! WP needs vB!
