Which would you prefer to use/wear in the rain? An umbrella or an anorak?

I personally prefer anoraks as umbrellas are flimsy, get broken in the wind, are annoying to hold (one less hand free) and do poke people.

I love the rain and I enjoy walking in it, it really depends, anoraks are definitely more practical if you're an outdoors person but umbrellas tend to be mobile and easier to carry around so if you are required to wear a suit for work purposes, perhaps an umbrella is the better choice.

I'd say umbrella, but I always forget mine.
I just try to have a general purpose jacket that is somewhat water resistant.
I've never even heard the word "anorak" before.

I prefer to wear an anorak in the rain. It's just easier.

I don't think I have either. It sounds like a type of spider / Pokemon :)

Also, I don't wear any protection in the rain. Maybe a coat.

An anorak is also another name for a Cagoule, if that helps.

No it doesnt. I have no idea what a Cagoule is either

I use an umbrella. I have a big multicoloured golf umbrella. It's big and bulky but I only have to carry it between my car and the office.

Kinda OT: I've always wanted a sunshadey parasol though (lacy black) and a japanese Rumi Kasa.

Umbrella in light or near-vertical rain. If it's windy, just a waterproof coat. If it's very heavy rain, a combination of both.
I don't really like my waterproof coat, it's one of those that packs away into a little bag but it smells horrible.

Sorry but that's funny. Trust a Brit to explain one unfamiliar term with an even more obscure one. It simply means waterproof jacket.

But what's really funny is that at least in British English the term anorak is also used as another word for nerd or slightly geeky person or someone with narrow and slightly peculiar interests. Ring any bells?

Sorry about the use of the word "anorak". I'm from the UK so I suppose we use different words here.

I only go out in umbrella weather. If its more violent than that I stay inside, preferably warm and snug under the covers.

If I were in power I would ban Umbrellas as they are an incredibly antisocial device (blocking a large amount of the pavement (en:us sidewalk) hitting other pedestrians).

Aside for the fact that in a city where the rain is often sideways (due to wind) they are completely useless anyway.

Here, in the West of Scotland, the rain appears to fall almost horizontally quite often. An umbrella is no use a lot of the time, so I wear an anorak (sold as a ski jacket in the shop). I'm an anorak, wearing a pink or purple anorak, so I can be seen by drivers.
