I'm finding it a nightmare making posts with any more than one or two photos in them.

Please can you either sort this out or upgrade the software?

Thanks.

It has been suggested several times but alex seems to be reluctant to do so.

Im not sure but he must have his reasons.

It's nonsensical as I can post 20-30 photos in a post elsewhere with ease. Here the forum software struggles with anything more than four or five images. If you have a lot of photos to post at once the situation can be considered to be impossible.

I hope Alex isn't being a Plank on this matter. Could we have any comment from him perhaps? A move to vBulletin would be great alex if you're listening, friend. :)

Brute-forcing the forum software until it accepts it generally works when you're posting only a few photos.

Alex is still using phpBB version 2, I believe. Version 3 has been out for quite a long time now, but as I recall there were a ton of problems upgrading from 2 to 3.

From what I can recall, upgrading from 2 to 3 was an extremely involved process. It wasn't as simple as installing the new version and everything is hunky-dory. I recall a lot of web masters having great difficulty doing so, and a LOT broke their forums all to hell. Many were forced to make all their users reregister in the new install.

With 57, 000 users, I totally understand why Alex hasn't done it yet.

On the other hand, version 3 has several options users here have been begging for for quite a while.

There are tutorials that say this is an easy process, but most are on web host company pages, and involve special scripts the hosts use, that Alex likely doesn't have (else he probably would have done it a long time ago).

Plus, he' s done a ton of customizing to the installation wer're using now. All the customizing would have to be transferred, which can be quite complex process.

I'd love to see it happen too, but hey, it's free, and I'm sure he's got quite a lot to do already.

Still, I hope he's giving it serious consideration for sometime soon. The advanced options in version 3 are far more than well worth the effort.

Tequila, I highly doubt upgrading the software will do much for this problem. Perhaps some of the version 3 scripting is more efficiently written than version 2, but I'm pretty sure the problems you're seeing are server related. And that's a whole different issue, and more expensive to rectify.

So what's wrong with the servers then? Isn't there enough capacity or some other gubbins?

phpBB 2 has serious security vulnerabilities, Here in Finland some cybercriminals have attacked sites and then posted lists of usernames and passwords on various sites.

I think this is a serious issue.

The site will be completely upgraded for the future within two months. We will have a completely refreshed design and the software will be brand spanking new.

Keep to similar colour schemes plz k thx. Which software will it be; a packaged one like phpBB, SMF or VBulletin? Or will we have a spiffy custom made job?

The server load issues are mostly related to, if not caused by, the software running on the site (which isn't entirely stock phpBB2 either). I'm fairly confident that once the software is swapped, the server load will decrease dramatically.

Alex - good to hear this from you, and like I've said before, I'm more than willing to help in the transition - just let me know.

Server Issues?? PHP-Nuke has a lot of issues - None of which reside on the server.

This looks remarkably like PHP-Nuke, and as such, Is a pain to do anything to, Including moderate users (done it before....)
