I've never posted a message on a forum before, I'm not sure how this goes.

I'm in therapy now and i think that my social anxiety disorder is actually aspergers. I'm looking to talk to other adults, over 30, who have problems in social situations.

Any help and/or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

'ello! advice? don't join the church of garlic!(you'll understand once you see the random discussion forums) For nervousness i suggest finding something that relaxes you. Each night i play piano and listen to radio. It's quite soothing. During the day...just remember that no one can be you, but you. oh yeah, i'm 16.

Welcome...No need to be nervous...lots of nice people here!I was just DX as AS a week ago,at 42,I am still trying to process the information.I have always had a lot of social issues. When I was younger,it mattered more becase I really wanted to have friends. Now,it is less important.I have a job and a boyfriend, cats and bunnies...they keep me pretty busy, anyother "socializing "I do on this web site.
My only warning is this site can be very addicting.Another way to "practice" socializing is in the chat room, but it can be a little over whelming and fast paced for me.

Hello. I'm 33 and have a lifelong history of social problems, something I've finally begun working on in the last year or so. Send me a message if you want to chat.

Hi Stace and welcome to WP

I'm 47 and have always had social anxiety to some extent.
I only discovered earlier this year that Asperger's was the reason and I find that a good help as I'm now much more aware of things like eye contact and body language.
I'm sure you'll find this forum helpful as most people have similar challenges.

Well, I'm only 29 so I guess you're not interested in talking to me

I too have social anxiety disorder as well as generalized anxiety that I am pretty sure are Aspie related. I finally found a therapist with experience in Asperger's who will be treating our daughter(8 years old) and most likely us as well.

Hi Stace! Welcome to WP. You're by no means alone.
With AS, the most stressful activity is having to socialize. There are some strategies and simple procedures for managing anxiety and stress eg. exercise(before and after), listening to music, massage, deep breathing, thinking positive thoughts. I find it much easier to socialize if the focus is on 'doing' eg, playing sport, playing games(trivial pursuit, cards etc) and I have to admit that a glass of champagne makes all the difference, though I'm in no way encouraging dependency on alcohol to get by.

You're among friends here :) .
