I live in Florida but have talked about seeing snow. Well I saw a Facebook pic. of a friend and it looks uncomfortable. She was in layers (which I HATE!) I never liked layering shirts on top of each other. IMO a shirt and jacket or sweater and jacket. I don't want to look like a marshmallow. So I was wondering how other Aspies dealt with the cold snow. Luckily I live in Florida and layering isn't a concern but IMO I couldn't handle it! :-)

The winter time never bothered me, snow FTW! :D

I like winter over summer by a landside, its just too hot and humid on this part of the earth during the summer, not to mention having to waste money on bottled water.

With that being said, I like wearing hats, jackets and sweaters as it sort of like my shell, like a turtle, as I'm very shy and not that social in real life...

Being that I live NYC, I'm not liking the winter this season, its too warm, last I checked it was 49 degrees today, thankfully on Tuesday its gonna be really cold (31 degrees).

Zelda, from my perspective, I think it's more of a what-sort-of-climate-you're-accustomed; than an Aspie thing. I see many folks from warm climates who move here never get the habit of dressing for cold weather. They are perpetually under-dressed for the weather and suffer all winter.

Here and in the northern mid-west, where I grew up, the indoor temps are significantly cooler than in FL. We are accustomed to wearing double layers indoors all the long winter. Then when we go outdoors we add coats, hats, etc. Warm weather folks transported here tend to heat their homes to 70 degrees or warmer so that they're comfortable without layers; but then when they go out, the temperatures in other buildings, not to mention the outdoors, overwhelm them.

I'm in Florida to, I very much want to live in a colder climate for that very reason. I love the feeling I get when I where heavy coats, and shirts on top of shirts. Not to mention that I like cold weather better then hot weather.

I live in Florida as well, and I hate it here. I love cold weather and hate sweating. I like wearing layered clothing, actually, but yeah, I don't often do it here. I hope to move north in the future.

I grew up in Southern California and before I lived in the Northeast, I didn't understand that you were supposed to wear more clothes when the weather was cold. Somehow, in my mind, there was no correlation between weather and clothing. In winter, it would be pretty cold in SoCal at night and in the morning, and I still wore shorts and T-shirts all the time and felt really cold. It was not until I moved to a place with life-threateningly cold weather if you didn't wear more clothes that I learned to wear more clothes in winter.

Why is it that so many aspies live in Florida? I can think of 6 others on this forum that I know live in Florida, and I know 4 others IRL that are aspies.

If you lived where it gets cold, you would learn to love layers because they keep you from freezing :)
If you use silk for your bottom layer, it doesn't get bulky and still keeps you pretty warm.

It's funny, I live in NJ where it is warm in summer and cold in winter. During winter I can't imagine myself wearing tank tops and shorts (I get a chill even thinking about it) and during summer I can't imagine myself wearing a sweater (they look like they will feel itchy and hot). But during each season, I am pretty comfy in those same clothes (assuming they are cotton or soft non-itchy material)

If you ever get a chance you should try to go to somewhere it snows and experience it. Nothing is quite like it. It dampens all the sounds of the world and it's really pretty the first few days it's here. People are more friendly when it snows too (like during hurricanes in FL). The bad part is if you have to shovel it or drive in it and that it gets dirty after a few days from pollution around here.

I love the wintertime and wearing coats so I guess that means I like layering lol. The one thing I really hate though, is when its cold outside but inside the heat is cranked way up! Then you either have to take everything off or suffer in the heat! I know a lot of places around here may keep it at 85 degrees inside when its like 30 outside lol.

May be a bit off topic, but I Don't mind layering for the cold that much

However when I go skiing on winter break, I don't mind layering up to go on the mountain but I cannot stand to ski for very long because the helmet and boots itch so much

I live in Minnesota so layering is common. I personally don't like it and avoid it whenever possible. The last 3 winters I didn't have a car and relied on the bus most of the time to go places so layering became necessary at times. sometimes layering is the lesser of two evils.

I love layering. First I'll put my hoodies on, then a winter jacket, then a sweater on then I'll put another coat on top of all the clothes that I'm already wearing.

For some reason I like the feeling. It makes me feel safe and protected.

I can't stand wearing layers. Makes me feel claustrophobic in so many clothes (and I'm not actually claustrophobic). I even had to take off my jacket reading this post because it made me feel so stifled/trapped.

I hate wearing socks like that. Mum used to make me put on two pairs of socks in winter when I was a child but then I actually preferred the cold to feeling the two layers on my feet... Ew. And that with my terrible reaction to cold.
