As the title suggests, I want to know how long my fellow aspies-- those who are still looking for work, anyway-- have been looking for a job. I guess technically, I've been truly looking since November, ever since I graduated with my MiST, and since then I've been focusing my search on library-related jobs only. Now, though, I've gotten frustrated enough that I'll settle for pretty much anything and everything. Even before I graduated, though, I've been unemployed since the middle of August.
I want to get a sense of how long job hunting can sometimes be, so I can get a sense of how much I should search until I start truly evaluating my career of choice and thinking of perhaps switching to something more viable.
Kev, I got my MLS in 1995 and currently am a director of a public library. I've never heard of a MiST degree. Is that some new variant of the MLS degree? The reason I'm asking is that you can certainly work in a library without an MLS; I'm the only person working here with such a degree. The problem is that it's difficult to impossible to advance far without the MLS or its equivalent.
Having said this, the American Library Association used to have a jobs directory--at least the last time I checked. Most states also have their own librarians' organization; here in Texas it is the Texas Library Association. I can't speak for all state library associations, but I got my current job through TLA's jobs listings. If you want to work in a library, that would be my recommendation.
