The original Star Wars is part of history, to alter it with CGI is like going into the Louve with a paint brush and altering the Mona Lisa.

It was a good thing they erased the black "slug" on the emperor in ROTJ, but all in all the alterations made the movies worse.
The biggest mistake was probably that they made it so Greedo was the first to shoot (so that Solo could blast him justly in self defense).

While they were at it they should´ve erased all the ewoks, or at least made them die painfully.

Some of the changes are actually good, like the improved shot of the Falcon taking off to escape the Stormtroopers, or the added air traffic above Mos Eisley. But the bad outweighs the good: Greedo shooting first, Han meeting CGI Jabba (who looks nothing like he does in Jedi), young Anakin's ghost, Vader yelling "NOOO!" when he kills Palpatine, and possibly the worst of them all: "Jedi Rocks."

The sad thing is that Lucas has ruined Star Wars for everyone, even people who don't mind the changes he's made, because it's now impossible to watch the films without thinking about the controversy. Even if you love the idea of Greedo shooting first, can you even watch that scene now without getting pulled right out of the experience?

The original, because HAN SHOT FIRST!! !
That's what gave his character so much appeal, he didn't take no crap from greedo.

The original is, and always will be, the superior cut. In addition to that, the Special Editions have progressively gotten worse and more senseless regarding the reasons for the changes.

^^^ It's called exploitation.

Lucas doesn't give a damn about anything but milking all the cash he can out of the only 3 decent films he ever made.

More like one decent film. He didn't write or direct Empire or Jedi, and the more I read about them, the more I learn just how minimal his involvement really was.

There's gonna be a newer edition of all of the Star Wars films: in 3D. The first film to be in 3D will be "The Phantom Menace". I don't think George is gonna make millions of money by re-releasing all 6 films in 3D. IMO, the films looked fine in their original 2D format.

Oh yes, he will. I won't be surprised if they break a billion.
