I'm guessing it was a planned Super Bowl upgrade thingy

Perhaps replacing hardware for the upcoming new software.

Or maybe an offline blind rehearsal of said new software upgrade.

I'm wondering what happened as well. WP was out of commission for a long time.

Server failure. Had to restore from backup, which took quite a lot longer than anybody thought it would.

Alex has been working on various upgrades. Weird things almost always happen during upgrades. The best thing anyone can do is report any issues they've seen (checking, of course, to see whether someone has already reported the issue), so the admins can see what's been happening and do what they can to fix it.

It can be frustrating, but it's a reality that's almost impossible to completely avoid. Patience Grasshoppers! :)

This is not an upgrade. The server had an issue, and we had to restore the whole server from backups. As of now, there are still files being restored, so many of the site functions are in a broken state.

Well all I know is I was having withdrawal symptoms. I felt like I ought to be walking around the hood asking strangers for a dollar and scratching my neck.

Ah. Yes, well both can cause similar wonkiness. Sorry to hear you're having issues. Good luck with the restore efforts, and thanks for for dealing with it BTW!
