Old post sometimes get bumped because members are not aware it's an old topic when they reply. I think it would be a good idea if there was a big message saying it was an old post before members replied if the post hasn't received a reply in a certain amount of time(like a month) So lets say I stumble onto a post that's two years old & I'm thinking about replying to it; there would be a big message when I click on the reply button saying the post hasn't recvied a reply in 22months or however long it's been

If I'm not mistaken, that would require custom scripting, which at this point in time isn't likely to happen. My understanding is (someone correct me if this is incorrect) that Alex is planning to upgrade the site sometime soon to the latest phpBB software. Plus there have been server issues recently. He wouldn't likely consider something like this until those issues are taken care of.

That, and old posts getting bumped, though it does happen, doesn't happen all that often, and sometimes it's not so bad to continue an already existing discussion rather than creating a new one. Though it is true that for some it is better to just start a new discussion. It depends on what it is.

Some of the repeated subjects that come up a lot of users would prefer to see in sticky threads rather than have them pop up again and again, but then we have the issue of too many stickies too, so there's a kind of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation with this kind of thing.

Ironically, this topic is one of those repeatedly brought up.

Generally so far, the consensus has been that bumped old threads aren't enough of a problem to worry about.
