Why can't I delete comments that I've posted. I used to see delete buttons but they just vanished overnight. What happened?

You have only 9999 minutes to edit a post; which is 6 days, 22 hours, and 39 minutes.

Okay, so that's editing. What's the timing for deleting?

Seems to be the same, although if someone else posts after you in the same thread, you may not be able to delete your post - only edit.

If you need posts deleted, then maybe you could provide links to the mods and ask them to delete them for you. Be sure to provide a bigger reason than "I want them deleted".

Good point, but sometimes I reach out to someone in need and then realize the next day that I can't really do much for them. Even just by talking to them. Or maybe there's some little detail I overlooked in their post and I now realize opening my mouth maybe wasn't the smartest idea. I guess that isn't good enough to delete a post.

PM one of us mods if you want anything to be deleted. There's a list of names on page 1 of the moderator attention thread.

we will sometimes edit or remove a post from public view if there is a very good reason for the request (i.e. publically identifiable information), but it is not something that is done routinely.
