I tried googling for it. But if possible I would like a free version with a compiler. I took a class on C++ a few years ago so i thought it would be fun to work with a little. Another issue with just trying to google for the answer was that I was getting answers that might be 5 years old, and of course I would want it to be the latest version.
I have a mac since that would be important to know for this.

Just download XCode. You can write C++ and compile it within the environment.

Likely still comes with crap like GCC.

XCode uses GCC but that isn't a bad thing. GCC is a very good compiler though it is a bit slow and the binaries tend to be a bit bulky. GCC complies with the standards very well and the binaries run quite fast. These days a bit of extra size doesn't really make much difference.

The term 'crap' was used as a synonym for 'things' and was not meant to be indicative of the quality of GCC. :)
