Icons to the left of each thread??

What do those icons mean? I know the sticky icon, I know when it's reddish then there is a new post there. I know that the green circle with the green squarish thing means a new post in regular threads, I know a white one means no new posts. Why are some of the squares inside the circle big and some little? Why do some flash and some don't? Are the blue arrow things in threads with new posts supposed to take you to the newest post since your last visit or only the last post?

I'm confused. Help me.

The flashing ones are "hot topics." Threads with a higher level of activity than the ones that don't flash.

I've got to wonder about the varied sizes, because they're all the same size for me. I'm wondering if what you're seeing are the flashing one's, but they're "stuck" for some reason, at their smaller size.

The "blue arrow things" take you to the last post. That one looks like a black arrow pointing to a blue page icon, if I'm seeing the one you mean.

EDIT: Now I'm not sure about that blue icon 'cause I don't see it next to very many threads.

EDIT AGAIN: Yeah, I think that is what it is, but only for threads you've actually read, that have new posts since last time you read it. I think your other guess was right. Not "last post" but, "first unread post." They don't show up for threads I haven't opened, or threads that haven't been posted to since I last read them.
