Is it really possible to feel it for anyone besides yourself and maybe your progeny or that one special person? I mean after all, if you loved someone unconditionally, you would still love them even if they did something ridiculously evil, like killed everyone you know except for you and themselves plus a bunch of kittens. So if that would make you stop loving them, as ridiculously extreme a condition that is, it's technically not unconditional love no?

Personally in principle I feel unconditional love for everyone, as it is simply the way I operate. I always think the best of everyone and act nicely to people even if I don't like them at all. Or at least I make an effort to. I don't really feel love actively though to people I don't know well or even to some of my relatives, I only really feel deep love/connection with my immediate family and my best friends. I've never been greatly wronged, so I'm not 100% sure that would change and I would become less about unconditional love if it did, but I think I would still feel the same way.

Unconditionnally? Nobody. There are always conditions. Loving anything no matter what happens is unsound... I hate that expression, "unconditionnal love".

Interestingly, the idea is very appealing to some (including myself. imo conditional love is actually not love at all) yet discomforting to others.

To me, unconditionnal love is emotionnal suicide. :o
Loving someone "conditionnally" is loving them for who they are, for what they are, not sticking to a strange principle even when either side is hurt. I think it is truer, more realistic and more fulfilling.

The fact that I love someone does not cause me to dispense with ethical and intellectual standards.

Indeed. Unconditional love should only be exhibited by dogs. If you can still love someone after he or she sets the local orphanage on fire, you might want to have yourself checked.

Myself.
I wanted to say any future offspring but they can be replaced, still.. they are an extension of my genes and any children they have will continue that legacy, so they would always have some hope from me.

I don't love myself unconditionally.
In fact, I find the concept really bizarre. :?

I think I can only love my immediate family - namely my wife and daughter - unconditionally.

I birthed and raised 4 people and I love them no matter what. If one of them was a sociopath murderer, I would still love them. I hate the bad actions but I think it's impossible to ever stop loving them. They have made it abundantly clear that they don't return the sentiment and it hurts worse than anything, but that doesn't change how much I truly love them. I think it's probably why it hurts so much.

What if your daughter murdered your wife, or your wife murdered your daughter, then went on a shooting rampage at the funeral and killed everyone else you cared about? Then drowned a bunch of puppies and burned an orphanage to the ground? Would you stop loving them THEN?

I mean, that's an absolutely insane ridiculous scenario and I'm sure they would never do that and it's a silly and possibly even offensive question, but hypothetically/philosophically, it's an important point. Since even the most unlikely, ridiculous-to-imagine condition, is still a condition.

I voted family but only because I know for a fact that my family is good.

Even family is not always capable of being unconditionally unloved for some people and that is a tragedy if you ask me.

Isn't that kind of a condition right there? I could be reading you wrong, but aren't you implying that *if* they were bad, you would disown/hate them?
